I was just watching Bob Dylan on TV and got to thinking about Hunter Thompson saying "Mr. Tambourine Man" was the best song, ever... I don't agree, but I'm currently incapable of confirming my opinion on what the best song ever is (Currently pretty sure its "Long way to the top" by AC/DC or "I made Linda Lovelace Gag" by David Allen Coe) but I'm also fairly loaded, so I'll put it to you guys...
What's the best song EVER?

If I was stranded on an island, I'd probably go with the Stones' "Brown Sugar." From the first two guitar notes to the last, it's got great lyrics, awesome beat, even a kickass sax solo. Ultra-tight -- not one more note or measure than what was needed...it's pretty near perfect, and captures them at the top of their form.

Off topic but I heard about this on the radio this morning. Apparently Bob Dylan's neighboring in Malibu are complaining about the smell coming from a port a john he has outside. I don't understand how someone with that much money just can't pay to empty it or be considerate

What criteria does a song have to have to be the best ever? Something you can listen to over and over? thats lasted for years? that everybody knows and likes? something that makes you smile? something that stirs us emotions? any kind of emotions?
Back in the 70's .. my choice might have been Wildfire (Michael Martin Murphy)... or Someone Saved my Life Tonight (Elton John)
80's ... probably something by Metallica ... Nothing Else Matters, Unforgiven/Unforgiven II
Hey in the 60's I think my favorite would have been Happy Birthday ... or a Christmas jingle ... possibly even the Sesame Street theme
Right now ... I have no idea
