“It’s been a challenging situation since Cocoa Beach,” said Sweers, a veteran competitor who throttles the cat. “We had a post-race windshield failure and we’ve working with Doug Wright Designs to have new windshields made from polycarbonate rather than acrylic because it’s much stronger and meets the latest UIM and APBA requirements for our class.”

I am amazed that Randy stated they had put an acrylic windshield in that boat and it failed. That boat was the next to the last one built by DW I believe, (Sean's Sarasota disintegrated boat was last I believe). The requirements for polycarb windows in all UIM/APBA 300HP Stock Outboard boats has been in effect way before these "latest" rules. The earliest rules I have are 2010 and they specify, "Polycarbonate (Acrylic will not be accepted)". The last failure, when they were caught with the acrylic windshield in LPC that failed, (that could have killed Vinnie, barely missed him), I thought would be the last one they tried to get away with.

Yeah, acrylic is cheaper and lighter, but what is your life worth and why try to get away with illegal stuff when it can kill you?

There were already quite a few boats in the pits today.

Both Super Cat and Stock Outboard should have their biggest participation of the season.

Spent some time chatting with Randy yesterday, he did make it there.

The polycarb window is on, but he said it needs some tweaking still.
