In wake of another school shooting our Governor proposes handing out guns to school kids.

It takes a good kid with a gun to protect us from a bad kid with a gun.

Its easy math; 3 armed 8 year olds are stronger then 1 18 year old.

Also all school security guards will issued body armor. Schools likely to begin fund raising for Ar's for all guards.

    Being a bit facetious?

What happened to the plan he laid our back in 2018 after those 10 were killed at a school? Did it not pass? It seemed like a reasonable plan to me at the time.

News conference today by DPS officer told story very different from the Governors version yesterday. Gunman was not taken down in minutes. Officers did not run toward gunfire like Governor claimed. Nearly an hour passed while waiting for back up.

There is no way to spin the story. A locked door or a single armed Guard if your lucky enough to have funding for one stops a gunman with an AR.

Nobody is asking how an unemployed high school drop out had the money to purchase an AR and hundreds of rounds. He didn't even have a drivers license.

There is no way to spin it. More guns is not the answer.

The real shame is every conversation about some type of gun control turns to "They"ll take your guns." There is plenty of room for some compromise.

Law makers in the pocket of NRA should wear that on their suits like Sponsors on Race uniforms.

There is no good reason for an 18 year old unemployed school drop out with not even a drivers license to own an assault rifle.

That must be it. Now the are proposing tearing down the school and rebuilding. Grand plan alright.

Its everything but the assault rifle. I am all for mature adults owning them. But punk as kids raised on hate and social media NOT!

You can't even go downtown anymore at night. Got kids with guns hanging in the streets outside bars trying to be cool and trying to impress their girlfriends by shooting up the crowds. State attorney chooses not to prosecute the punk ass kid.

    Its all wrong

My rifles are entirely uninvolved in the:
-decades of dehumanizing media exposure to kids
    -crappy parenting
-missed signs for over a year that the kid had a problem
-missed fact that his co-workers at Wendy's called him "School Shooter."
-missed hour of hesitation on the part of the first responders, who allegedly focused on their own children.

When someone comes with a non-weapon focused, non legislative solution I will know they are serious and not just exploiting kids to disarm and criminalize historically non-criminal people.

Pro tip for any non gun people: The NRA is worthless and has been for many years. They do not represent actual gun owners. Board of directors are political appointments. None of the true 2A /NFA people are members. We just troll Wayne L, who was just elected again like 56-1.

This is suspicious. Just like the parts list (ban list) left by that asshole in Buffalo.

More back tracking. At first the teacher was blamed for propping door open.
Video shows she closed the door before shooter approached.

Lots of finger pointing. Haven't heard any discussion of how rifles were paid for.

It would be helpful if the purchase was logged and info shared. Maybe a co signer on young buyers. Like on loans or under age medical procedures.

Sure are LOTS of one in a million coincidences.
a LOT easier to believe a "conspiracy" than the tales the media is blasting.
Looking back at previous similar happenings, they all had same events.
How many had law enforcement wait or turn tail?
And we are to give up our own protection and depend on them???

Seems like a money trail from a young, pretty broke 18 year old would be an easy investigation.
I have yet to hear a word about that though.
    Wonder why?

The problem is only partially age.

For overall mass shootings — not just school shootings — academic studies have found that about a quarter of shooters were younger than 25. Almost all were male.

A large-scale RAND study found that 26% of mass public shooters between 1976 and 2018 were younger than age 25. Another study from the University of Alabama found that 27.2% were younger than 25, and that 6.8% were younger than 18.

US Population in that age group in 2020, 15-24 years: 12.91% (male 21,931,368/female 21,006,463).

The guy who killed 59 and injured around 500 in Vegas was 64 I believe.

Another issue is the definition itself. Some say 3 or more killed, some say four or more killed, some say 3 or more injured or killed, etc. With the criteria the politicians and media on the left like to use, 3 or more injured or killed, a guy comes home and finds his wife in bed with somebody else, kills them both and himself, that's a mass shooting. Domestic violence cases like that, along with gang related, happen the most.

With all of that being said, we can do much better if the far left and the far right were both banned from being part of the process. The 80% in the middle could probably make this extremely better in a short period of time.

As for Texas, allowing concealed carry by anyone; no background check, no permit, absolutely nothing required sure seems nuts to me. But it would not have made a difference in this case.

The latest on the door is that now that it was blocked it open when the teacher went outside to do something but closed when they returned. But that they forgot to lock it. Again, makes no sense. If it needed to be blocked open so they wouldn't be locked out, why wouldn't it be automatically locked when they returned?

As for gun permitting, this is what the general requirements are for a police officer. So, in short, for a police officer to carry a weapon they need to meet the requirements. I would propose that anyone under the age of 25 (the reason I pick 25 is that is the age when brain development is complete according to most Dr's), who wants to conceal carry or own any semi-automatic weapon that shoots more than 6 shots, (wild-wild west 6 shooter), needs to meet the requirements of items 1, 2, 4, 6, 12, and 13.

After all, the 2nd Amendment was created to make sure the citizens had the same fire-power capabilities as the police, authoritarian government agencies so we would have a fair chance just in case.

    General Police Officer Requirements:

    Be a United States citizen
Be at least 21 years of age
Have good vision (usually 20/20 or better)
Obtain a high school degree or a GED
Obtain at least 40 college level credits
    Possess a valid driver's license
Pass a rigorous physical fitness test
Pass multiple written exams related to reading comprehension, report writing, grammar & spelling, and in some departments, basic policing procedures
Stand out and pass the police oral board interview
    Pass a police polygraph test
    Pass a criminal background check
    Pass the psychiatric evaluation
    Graduate from the police academy

There are many little things that can add and makes some sensible change in the proper direction.

Another incident close to home last summer. Sixth Street downtown Austin is our entertainment district. Long street of bars, bands and restaurants. While the governor is relaxing gun laws the city counsel moves in different unrelated direction. The street gets blocked of cars. Creating a block party many blocks long. Lots of drinking, noise, dressed up fun loving adults. Mix in kids from other cities mixed in the street party. Underage for the bars but unimpeded in the streets. Some juvenile with a gun shoots up the crowd in a dispute over another juvenile girl. One out of town visiting adult from I recall Michigan is killed. A year later no arrests. The kid they caught not charged. States attorney has his sites somewhere else.

I good start would be stop talking about protecting yourself as an argument. Punk ass kids with guns looking for respect don't apply. Lack of respect in this younger generation is an other rant altogether. A generation in large part measured in likes and aspirations of being an influencer .They should not be lawful gun owners in any measure.

    Easy one small step.

Oh yea the mental health our governor funded in response to previous school shootings. He took away.

Blame it on the door that didn't lock. That fixes everything.
