    Apaches with surface drives?
    #1
I was reading in the Cig section about some cigs with surface drives and was curious if any Apaches are running surface drives. Specifically 36's and 41's.

Not in the classical sense of an Arneson/Kaama/whatever. The SSM6 is a short sterndrive. The Weissman is much closer to a true surface drive than the 6 is.

No I consider it a surfacing speedmaster drive with a lower unit a suface drive to me is something on an almost direct or direct shaft trimmable or not like bpm, trimax, arneson, or kaama. And I agree with Chris about the Weissman!!!!!

What was the beam on the Miami to NY 47, looks like more than 8'?

Also isn't there a teal 41 running in Europe now, seen video (p1?), looks like surface drives...

The engines in post # 9 are BPM V 12 engines
They are manufactured in Italie, same company as the BPM drives, the engines they produce are 1 litre per cilinder ,they have a V6 ,V8 ,V12 ,all are all aluminium ,block&heads, oil pans etc etc, I believe those v12,s were rated at 680 hp back then ,not 100% sure.
All engines have hemisferic style heads

The speedmaster 6 was originally designed by Fred Kiekhaefer back in the mid 80's when he was head of Kiekhaefer Aeromarine. It was released in 1988 as the Kiekhaefer K drive and only available to qualified race teams. The first dry sump #6 was done by Pat Wiessman in 95.
