" I got such a good deal on this used boat I don't care if it needs a new engine."

I reply that's great cause this engine is done.

When I ask when the last time it was serviced, I often hear this..

    " Well I don't use it much."

which leads me to the next question. How long have you owned the boat?

"I've owned it for 4 years and its been running great until now. The guy I bought it from just had everything done."

Of course he did I typically reply.

    "Just do everything"

That would be great if you brought it to me in the off season.

I added some Sea Foam and it still runs rough: what do you think I should do next?

I just used it for the first time since you worked on it. It is still hard to start. Can I bring it by now so you can take a look at it?

I reply, Its been over a year since I worked on it.

I do all my own maintenance, but it will not plane off any more. How much is a tune up?

The alarm keeps sounding. All the gauges look fine so I cut the alarm wire.

My best one is from the city marina a couple years ago. Guy pulls up with a 38 PQ. Can’t park it. All pissed off about his mechanic hooked the cables up backwards when he serviced it. Calmly I told him they put the props on wrong. The guy was a jack wagon to us for years. Now he is my best friend. LOL. Not!

How do you expect me to use my boat if my trim gauge doesn't work?

Yes, very common question. Usually from boat owners that DIY service or don't service with a shop annually.

Boats in texas more often then not get serviced only once a problem appears. I've talked to people that own a house boat that they purchased many years ago and have never had it hauled. When the outdrive finally rots off the back they ask.
How did that happen, I guess I ned to call my insurance company.
