Accident in Doha, Turn 1 This Morning

Everyone appears to be okay. That's great news.

Not so great news on the boat however......

An update from Doha. U11 was involved in an accident in the turn 1 of lap 2 of Heat 2A. At that time it was a very close race with the 37 out front of the 11, 21 & 9. Initial reports say that the 11 & 21 got together, with the 11 going over the top of the 21 but landing right side up. At this time driver Tom Thompson is alert and responding but they transported him to the hospital here in Doha because he is complaining of pain in his left arm. That is all we know at this time, as we find out more we will let all of you know.

And Later;

Tom Thompson update 3pm Doha time. Still under evaluation at the hospital. The doctors are still unsure of the extent of the injury to his left arm. There is some speculation that it may be broken, but at this time they are just about to do more X-Rays to get a definite idea. He is resting comfortably and talking to his wife and Shannon. He also requested that if the arm is broken that they please not put a cast on it so he could race again on Tuesday. More information as it becomes available.

6:45 pm Doha time. Sorry for the long delay in updating the status of Tom Thompson. He is still at the hospital this evening and in good spirits. The doctors have looked him over thoroughly and can find nothing wrong. At this point in time he does have some swelling in his left forearm and the doctors are waiting for the swelling to subside a bit before they release him. He is very mad and de...termined to break out of the hospital and get back and help work on the boat. Certainly great news!
The crew with the help of the QMSF and the H1 rescue crew have put airbags under the boat and it is currently being lifted out of the water and on to the trailer. The boat does have some considerable damage to the right side and the engine will also be spending the night at the bottom of Doha bay. It all can be fixed. We are all extremely thankful for the response of the H1 rescue crew led by Dennis, Terra, Dave and Bob, without them this could have been a different story!

Heat 2A the U-11 collied into the U-21. Everyone is okay and the boat is damaged and will not be running the rest of the weekend.
