I'm gathering he's saying it should have been done a long time ago. Hopefully they do it better than Fountain though. That business model didn't seem to work out.

I know that I'm sure hopeful the Cowes race goes and that this new Chief does really well. Either them or Cookee as the winner, the other one second.....

And both first in their class......

I would have liked to see the old school style hatches and eliminate the swim platform

With the distance of the race, I don't think there would be any way to try to compete in it without one. I'm sure someone will be hanging out there in rough water changing a prop once or twice.......

Make no mistake, I LOVE 41 Apaches, but the back boxy part of the hatch has always made me wince. I like the Chief, Checkmate, Saber and Pantera iterations of the hatch better.

Kind of you to say so!

There has been a bit of a change with the "Venture Cup" - Mike Lloyd who was the organiser has quit and there is a new team at the top, the first thing they did is change the start to where I believe it should have been all along - London! We will now be starting from Tower Bridge in the middle of London itself - there will be speed restrictions given the size of the boats and we will be able to have a proper start further down the river, make no mistake we will be on the plane and it will be amazing!

The difficult decision was made to make the 2013 event a "Prologue" event as there were too many loose ends to be certain of a trouble free event down to the South of France so we will be doing an English Channel based event which will still be the longest race in recent history and a great event to set both the race teams and the organisers up for 2014 when we will be racing to Monte Carlo!

    The Programme:

    Venture Cup Prologue

    THURSDAY 6th JUNE
Event site and pit-area (wet & dry) opens at West India Dock, London

    FRIDAY 7th JUNE
Scrutineering at Pits in West India Dock

    SATURDAY 8th JUNE
LEG 1: Morning - Tower Bridge London to Brighton (approx. 170nm)
Mandatory stop of 1-hour minimum (fuel & basic maintenance)
To be considered a pit-stop, so boats can leave once 1-hour time completed
LEG 2: Afternoon - Brighton to Guernsey (approx. 160nm)
Fleet arrives mid-afternoon on Saturday June 8th - finish line will be immediately off Castle Cornet.
Fleet have two options for mooring - Victoria Marina or Boatworks+ Pontoon. Both will be exclusive to race fleet
Harbour crane available immediately on site
30 second walk to Guernsey Yacht Club where barbecue and drinks will be available all day
Overnight mooring at Victoria Marina with full security
Guernsey Yacht Club will remain as the Event HQ throughout the stay in Guernsey

    SUNDAY 9th JUNE
Lay day in Guernsey with local class racing & entertainment
Summer Arts Festival at venue with bands and street entertainment
Vin D'Honneur at Castle Cornet Dining Hall for all crews with presentation of cups (incl. Gold Cup).
    Goody bags for all crews
Afternoon will see inshore race by Guernsey Powerboat Club - Venture Cup fleet welcome to participate

    MONDAY 10th JUNE
LEG 3: Morning - Guernsey, around Channel Islands (including Guillot Passage) to Northern France (approx 150nm)
Mandatory stop of 1-hour minimum (fuel & basic maintenance)
To be considered a pit-stop, so boats can leave once 1-hour time completed
LEG 4: Afternoon - Northern France, around Channel Islands to Guernsey (approx 150nm)

    TUESDAY 11th JUNE
LEG 5: Guernsey to finish-line at Bournemouth Pier (approx 160nm)
Various marks to be included to add 'spice'
Final pits & extraction will be in Poole, followed by prize-giving and celebration
