We are very fortunate. Humbling, really.
Not only was Charlie a part of the lives and times that fascinate so many of us, he is an extraordinarily gifted writer. When I read his stories, I find that I am reading carefully and considering each word, and that my imagination is fully engaged.
Thanks very much Charlie. Your generosity is truly appreciated.Warning: This post may contain language unsuitable for minors or math not suitable for liberal-arts majors.

03-03-2012 09:51 PMYou are more than welcome. First of all let's be clear, all these things happened to me just because I loved boats and boat racing and just happened to be in the right place at the right time. It could have happened to anyone of you too. We all share that love of this great sport, I just am happy for the opportunity to share some of the stories that I was there for before I will be....as Brownie says...."taking a dirt nap!!"
A quick one here ....Bill Wishnick used to love to go into an ice cream shop in a race town, usually down by the boardwalk or near the beach. He would go up to the owner and tell him what he was going to do... and then show him he could do it.....and then he would announce for the doors to be closed and for everyone in that shop to order whatever ice cream special dish or cone they wanted.....and by the way tell your friends, the offshore guys are in town, make sure you come down to watch the race tomorrow. He was a one man ambassador for the sport.Light travels faster than sound....that is why some people appear bright until we hear them speak!!

Charlies first "Poker Run".. In his classic Banana hul design. Banana, to Sonic, to Avanti. (I hope I got the sequence right. )
Life is: what happens... when you plan something else.

Thank you Charlie, the origins of the sport are as colorful as the people who started the sport. Would that the same tenacity were aligned today.....
