The current was so strong in St. Joe yesterday we were barely making headway coming back to the ramp. There were trees 20 feet long and 1 foot diameter FLYING downstream. The ramp itself is protected by a concrete barrier, so once you got in at a pier, you were safe. But it was nuts.

When we left in the AM... the river was decent... normally current in my opinion. But they must have opened a dam up cause it was whipping good.

Definetly a day where you really need to watch the river as you're driving or your nice day on the lake could be ruined by a ****ed up prop..

Thats some fuzzy math when that totals $60

Portage ramp was $10 to launch and park(how can parking be separate thats fin stupid) and $33 for a slip across the street at Marina Shores with full access to the heated pool, shore power, super clean bathroom, laundry, showers, workout room etc..

Marina Shores definately has a nice facility. We should ALL stay there some night and have a raucous 1980s dance party.

How was the Portage Ramp? It looks like it is nice, but I have heard that the ramps are pretty short?

I dropped all my axles off the end of the Portage ramp a couple years ago without knowing it. When I pulled out after launching the boat, the front axle smashed into the edge of the concrete and almost ripped off. Blew all the lights out of the trailer. Good times.

I believe the one that if FURTHEST from the building is the longer one...

I launched out of Portage last year and all of the ramps are short. I got out fine, but it was a real pain getting back on the trailer. It's to bad because it's a nice facility.

If you guys are going to park alot of cars just park in the Casino parking garage it is free. Then go down the elevator and walk in the marina parking lot
    Just a thought

If the Portage ramp is short thats news to me!
My wife loves it for just the opposite reason, its long (thats right I said LOOONG) and she doesn`t have to have the boat halfway off the pier before I can get it off the trailer.
The parking lot is a walk but for $10 I`ll take a walk and when its busy theres at least 3 dudes directing traffic making things go smooth. Well actually it must be a Union job, theres one dude directing traffic and the other 2 are sitting on their ass watching

Its short, no doubt. Had to load my 40' Formula there a few years ago. Got it done, but had to be careful.....nice thing is they used to have a marker where the ramp dropped off, so you didnt back in too far.
