The proper terminology was the"James Gang" back when we were all together.

Proud members included everybody from the Lavins to Ernie Schmidt, Dick Genth, George Linder, Don Roberts, "Uncle Billy Don" Pruett, Darren, Ken Adams, JD Emerson, a raft of fans and a little boy in Treasure Cay whose story I have told many times.

    T2x,

What decided the length of the Conquest cats? 35 foot vs 38 or 40 and 48 foot vs say 46 or 50?

We built all of them to customer order.

There were 3 32 foot outboards (all different) because that seemed to be the "sweet spot" for triple OB's at that time.

The 35 foot JJ was built to the minimum legal size in the APBA Open Class rules for maximum speed.

There are reasons for all of the rest as well, and since One Bad Injun knows everything and believes in his small mind that I had nothing to do with the process, I am sure he will be glad to tell you what parameters each hull was created around.

By the way, If he would like to give me his phone number (and name) I will have George Linder call him and explain the roles of Ken Adams, Me and himself in the process. Or he can continue to drop sly, sarcastic, uninformed comments every chance he gets.

The good news for him is he must be a very happy person given the fact that ignorance is bliss.

Chris Craft sponsored the Lavins for a season after they stepped out of their Chris Cat, but CC had nothing to do with the 35 foot JJ other than painting their name on the hull. It was right about that time that Chris Craft got out of the racing program and shortly after that the company ran very short of funds.

One Bad Injun (you can call him "Ed") will tell you all about it, complete with names, dates and the exact sums of money involved.....

That race was covered by IPI/ESPN right before I went to work for them. Sorry, but I don't have a copy of that tape. We did get some filmed footage from the JJ helicopter, but as I recall that film camera (very expensive, pro quality) was stolen from the chopper at the airport at Treasure Cay later that evening.

"Ed" probably knows where it is...........

Rich is the length of the 48 measured from the bottom of the boat or from the very back that extends over the drives? How long is that overhang?
