Dick's Tire Service was located at 929 Truman Ave.

This looks like where Island Bicycle is today, catty-corner from Don's Place Bar.

    50 YEARS AGO:

Hurricane Dora hit the First Coast of Jacksonville and St. Augustine causing the plane carrying the Beatles to be diverted to Key West, where they arrived at 3:35 a.m. on Sept. 9 and were taken to the Key Wester Hotel.

Bernie C. Papy Jr., son of the man who had served in the Florida House of Representative for 28 years, won the special election to replace his late father.

Considerable confusion over closing bars and liquor stores during a special primary was settled when the Florida Attorney General ruled they could remain open.

    50 YEARS AGO:

Key West was crazy with the news that the Beatles had arrived during the night to avoid Hurricane Dora and were staying at the Key Wester Hotel.

One report had a woman asking for help at the airport because she was having a baby in her car. When advised to go the hospital she replied that she could not leave until she saw the Beatles.

    50 YEARS AGO:

Beatle John Lennon, while in Key West, stopped at Leed's Credit Clothiers Inc. at 601 Duval St., where he purchased three polo shirts and accessories.

While everyone was watching the Key Wester Hotel where the Beatles were staying, the hotel was receiving offers to buy almost anything they had used, even to the point of selling water from the pool where they were swimming.

The Beatles, before they left Key West, granted their only interview to a group of children and signed some autographs.
