Peters and May: Racing to DOHA!
    #1
It has been a busy few weeks for Peters & May USA, international boat shipping and logistics leader. The company is sending the H1 Unlimited fleet of race teams across the globe to Doha, Qatar. Just last month H1 was celebrating its last 2010 domestic event at the historic Bayfair race on Mission Bay in San Diego, and the following week, Ryan Hamilton, Peters & May Key Account Handler for Race Operations, was working non-stop to prepare 11 race teams and their ancillary gear for travel around the world to the H1 Oryx Cup UIM World Championship races in Qatar, November 17-20. The Oryx Cup race is hosted by His Excellency Sheikh Hassan bin Jabor Al-Thani, President of the Qatar Marine Sports Federation (QMSF). The QMFS sponsors the U-96 race boat in the series and utilizes the services of Peters & May USA in transporting its race boats.

While Dave Villwock was celebrating his 61st Unlimited Hydroplane race win, Hamilton was already busy trying to organize 11 team managers, their boats and equipment to travel across the country to Jacksonville, Florida, en-route to the Middle East! This was no mean feat, but with its 2009 experience under its belt, Peters & May USA was ready for the challenge. The company's sponsorship and success with various teams has stoked an enthusiasm for racing in Peters & May USA that is equaled only by the fellow racers with whom the company works to ensure the safe transport of their boats, equipment and teams to their next destination.

Weeks before, Hamilton prepared paper work that would help him coordinate with each team to cover documentation, title clearance, customs, and various legalities and logistics to get each boat safely to Doha, within the two week lead time necessary to meet the teams' on-site needs. In preparation, each boat had to be cleaned and inspected before export for travel to the Middle East. Each boat needed to be covered, shrink wrapped and prepared for the long 17,400 nautical mile round-trip voyage aboard the Hoegh Autoliner vessel, Hoegh Dubai. Peters & May will be on hand from dock to dock ensuring that customs and clearance will be handled prior to the boats' arrival so they have time to prepare for the race.

"There is a tremendous amount of trust that goes into a relationship like this," says David Holley, Managing Director for Peters & May USA, "But based on the success that we enjoyed with H1 last year, we had to come back as both a team and group sponsor this year. Our focus is now to ensure the timely and safe delivery of the fleet."

In addition to being a sponsor of H1, Peters & May also sponsored the U-37 Schumacher team this year. While the team experienced some setbacks early in the season, the entire group rebounded and looks forward to competing in Doha. "We are all so enthused about the excitement that racing brings to the marine industry!" says Holley, "This is where we make our living, but boating of all kinds is our passion. Our personal and professional involvement as a sponsor is our way of 'giving back' something to this great sport. It's also a great way for us to get to know the racers and better understand their specific needs for racing transport. We are definitely engaged in this sport!"
