With my truck's oil pressure jumping like it did, I'm looking for a good OBD2 scanner to check it out. Preferably PC based.

I was told Autozone will do a free scan. I'm gonna stop there and see if their handheld code reader can even see my oil pressure. Worth a shot I guess.

what year, make, model and engine do you have? you may not have a pcm based oil presure input to the truck. it may just be a switch style with a dummy gauge.

Looking at the wiring diagram at Autozone.com, the gauge looks analog, but is monitored by the "logic".

Logic (in a ford ) means it goes through a processor. Logic takes the input and smooths it out. so when you are at idle and at a stop light the pressure in the engine may go down to about 20 or so but the gauge should attempt to stay the same. It is just a buffer to keep things like the fuel gauge from moving back and forth when the vehicle goes over bumps and the fuel is sloshing around.

In the diagram, it looks like solid wire from the sending unit to the gauge and the logic connection is there just to monitor the sending unit and report a loss of pressure to the ECU. But then again, I have no clue!
