    May 13, 2010
    Hi,
This is the boat I "terrorized" with in 1981...Reggie's 1st boat...Kevlar hull with Merc 454's, twin turbocharged/Gale Banks set-up with Speedie II's...ran 86 MPH!
As I am "setting up" for the DON ARONOW MEMORIAL MARATHON RACE AROUND LONG ISLAND... this is the run.
    On Sept 18th, 2010:
We are starting at LaMotta's Restaurant/Manhasset Bay Marina in Port Washington, NY, heading North and going around Orient Pt Litehouse, then around Montauk Pt Litehouse, south around the Rockaways, up the Hudson River, up the East River and back to LaMotta's Restaurant.

Distance: 271 miles total. You can stop for fuel where ever you want.
Stu Hayim in his 32 Skater, "RECOVERY" set the record for this course at 3 hours and 6 minutes in 1989 with Joey Impresscia on the throttles.
    Past Winners:
    1959: Jim Lacy 17' HUNTER w/70 HP Merc O/B 8 hrs and 30 min
    avg: 34.2 mph 280 miles
    1960: Chuck Mercereau 17' POWER CAT w/2-80 HP Merc O/B's 6 hrs
    avg: 46.7 mph 280 miles

    1966: Alan Brown 28'Donzi BROAD JUMPER 2-530HP Holman& Moodys 4 hrs & 42 min
    avg: 53.8 mph 253 miles
    1967: Dick Genth 28'Formula THUNDERBIRD IV 450 HP MerCruiser 5 hrs & 23 min

...and then the event moved to Point Pleasant, New Jersey in 1970.
I am not sure why the distances around Long Island change/are different some years.

All interested parties in participating or being a Safety Boat, please contact me.
This run is endorsed by Michael Aronow, Charlie McCarthy's "Historic Offshore Raceboat Association", and Guy LaMotta and his "Dry Martini" Race Team. Also, Guy's Manhasset Bay Marina and LaMotta's Restaurant, Port Washington, NY on Long Island Sound, are hosting this event

This is what real ocean racing was all about. It was not all out speed, but good preparation of the boat and smart sensible driving, combined with good navigation.

Come out all those who really want to experience a once in a lifetime event....you can tell your grandkids, that you actually participated in this kind of a race..... before it was banned by the new World Government!!!

I stopped by K&K Outboard last week and the Kalibat brothers have the multi time champion, 28' "Ghost Boat" out of mothballs. It looks like the outboard class in this race just got a whole lot tougher......... As a matter of fact if it's rough......these guys will make the whole fleet step up a notch.

Six weeks to go........it seems pretty quiet out there.

Must be a lot of secret rigging and testing going on.

Hope to hear some more teams have decided to come out and try what real open ocean racing is all about.

I'd like to see a running list of entries kept.
This event is in my backyard, and I'll be hanging out on the docks.
Charlie, you still looking for support boats?

Hey friend: I've been on the road, have missed out a bit.

How did the new boat do in Europe?

    Hope all went well.

    Your friend

I can't speak for the others, but, I haven't put on too many pounds since back then. So, I know I'll fit.

We are looking for both support boats and racers. I believe that we have a half dozen or so racers and a couple more guys told me this past weekend at a poker run up here, that they were seriously considering it....so if we can get more than the 15 or so, we had for the first Miami to Bimini run a couple of years ago....that would be a good start.

I'm not concerned about your girlish figure, I just want that big water, no quit attitude, you always had...LOL

If we have any boat owners out there looking for some help in the cockpit....give us a PM....we have some older racers...experienced racers.....who would be a big help.

This is a fairly easy race compared to some of the others in the past....al least here you can always see land ....hopefully to your right side all the time.
