Got a friend with a small block cruiser - Merc 260hp/3504bbl - Has steering issues - hard as hell - valve and all is moving as expected - new cable - want to test the pump pressure - What should it be minimum???

don't quote me but it's allot in the neighborhood of 2000psi if i remember correctly. be safe checking it a gauge not designed for it could rupture.

1200 is typical witha 1400-1500 pressure releif, the uprated unit I put in this summer makes 1500. after destroying two saginaw pumps, it turned out that all my problems were caused by an incorrect high pressure line filter.
The guru at the rock crawler hydraulics shop said dump the filter flush the sytem and use royal purple or red line synthetic. my dual ram system has never been so good.

BTW you can get the metric saginaw pump minus can and pulley for 70 bucks at napa, just have to paint and transfer the parts. Be sure to clean the magnet
