What an event! Should all our plans come to fruition, this is shaping up to be a step change up from our last two years. And has my staff wondering, what can we possibly add next J Please bear with my long message here, there is so much going on! Please see the email attachments for the latest event schedule and a Rotary park flyer.





The "Puttin On The Wish" event on Wednesday has working out to be a very special day, with many children and their families coming out from Phoenix to enjoy a day on the lake. We have a small festival area setup at the Nautical Resort for the kids to enjoy on land and some super boats signed up to take them out on the water. We'll stage the rides at the Nautical docks from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, with a cocktail party hosted by the Nautical Resort afterwards, at 6:30 pm. Our auction, benefiting Make-A-Wish will be Friday evening at 9:00 pm, during the Poker Run Beach Party at the Nautical Cove area. We are still looking for special items to auction off, so please let us know if you would like to donate. We have some very special items already donated, such as a painting from Dean Loucks. "The Art of Design" (TOAD) owner has created this hand painted artwork just for this event. Dean has been creating fine art paintings for a few years now and has donated several for the Platinum Powerboat Club charity events. The Platinum Powerboat Club was created by marine industry insider Joy Schou to bring Powerboat enthusiasts and special charities together to share our passion for boating. Thurday's Desert Storm Street Party and Show has been totally filled up with some fabulous examples of boats and tow vehicles. The boats on display will gather on the island around 8:00 am on McCulloch blvd in front of the Nautical Resorts. They parade together across the London Bridge and up McCulloch into the downtown area at 9:00 am. There we'll setup for the public opening a Noon, with vendors, restaurants and shops all welcoming the spectators and participants with music, great food and special drinks.
The LakeRacer Staff will greet our participants on the street with a large booth across from Mad Dogs Pub. We'll have past event videos shown on our outdoor theater and will be available to purchase, along with event poker run and shootout shirts and posters. During the street party, we'll have VIPS such as Title Sponsor Bob Teague, 2009 Shootout Winner Greg Olson, DCB owner Dave Hemmingson and Randy Schism of MTI scheduled in our VIP booth (at registration) for photos and autographs. Other VIPS will also be announced at the event. Event registration starts at 5:00 pm, so our staff can enjoy the street party during the day. Participants can sign in and pickup their event bags from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm and enjoy some food and drinks catered by Mad Dogs Pub and the Shugrues Family of restaurants.




For Friday, we have one hundred and forty boats signed up for the Poker Run and room for more. See Who's Coming! Event sign in opens at 7:00 am at the Nautical Resort Cove tent area, with the mandatory drivers meeting beginning at 8:30 am. Group captains will be identified and event procedures and changes will be discussed. The Coast Guard and other law enforcement officers will address the group. The boats will group together on the water in Thompson Bay in front of the Nautical at 10:00 am with "Group A" starting the parade thru the London Bridge Channel soon after. Groups A and B will be the boats planning of speeds less that 70 mph, who, in the past have been in the last groups. This year, starting first, they will run north to the Havasu Landing station. Groups C and D will be the boats planning on speed greater than 110 mph and will head south to the Havasu Springs station upon exiting the channel. The groups E, F and G will head south and Groups H, J and K will go north for their first card stations.




After the morning run, boaters can return to the Nautical Resort and attend a group lunch in the conference center. Boaters not staying at the Nautical, can beach their boats on the island side of the channel or moor them at Rotary Park and be picked up in either parking lot by Road Runner Shuttle for transportation to the Nautical. The afternoon run begins at 2:00 pm with card stations 4 and 5, plus the Helicopter photo station open. The helicopter photos are included with you registration package, so please que up and get your photos taken, be sure and keep your speeds around 60 mph or below to let the photographer get the best pictures. Also during the afternoon, check out the Stereo Contest being held at the Staff Dock at the Nautical by Gazda Marine Audio, don't forget to sign up for the contest online at www.shop.lakeracerllc.com they will be giving away some great prizes!
The Poker Run Beach Party begins at 6:30 pm and we'll have live music, food and hosted Bud Light for the festivities (wrist band required), turn your cards in here and plan on dancing and partying with all your friends. Watch the fireworks show at 9:00pm and help out the Make a Wish Foundation with generous bids for some great items!




For those not participating in the poker run, we have a new venue setup for a spectator beach party at Rotary Park. Open all day Friday and Saturday, till 1:00 am and Sunday 8:00am to 5:00 pm with boat displays, music, food and specialty vendors and a beer garden. Boat mooring will also be encouraged off the beach.




The Desert Storm Shootout begins Saturday morning with sign in at 7:30 am and drivers meeting a 8:00 am. The planned schedule for the boats will be given out there. Boat inspection begins at 8:30 am with the run commencing at 9:00 once the Coast Guard has given their course OK. This year the shootout is sanctioned by the American Power Boat Association and the speeds certified. The event play by play will be broadcast on KFAT radio 97.1 FM and on PA systems at Rotary Park and Nautical Resort. Martin Sanborn of American Powerboats Television will be announcing with several others. Racer interviews will be part of the broadcast along with the speeds of each run. Much of this will be broadcast on the internet at www.justsaynews.com




This year we will have the Dixie Belle, the local paddle wheeler cruise boat as our shootout headquarters, where we have accommodations for a limited number of VIP passes for those who would like to see the shootout operations up close. After the Shootout, we have a participant awards party at the Aquatic Center Rods and Relics Hall with live music, catered banquet and hosted Bud Light. Starting at 6:30 pm, with awards scheduled for 8:15 pm. The Rotary Park Beach party will also be going on and a fireworks display is scheduled at 8:00 pm!
