Maybe a better what to explain is the V sorta turns into a pad and flattens the bottom and there are air holes where it "steps" up. Kinda hard to explain I guess but it makes sense when seeing it.

Any Phantom owners have pics of their bottoms?

This picture of my old 30 Phantom raceboat shows how the step is ventilated from the holes on the side. The non-canopied one is my current boat and shows the ventilation hole on the side.

I'd rather be on the boat with a drink on the rocks, than in the drink with my boat on the rocks.

    Frank,

Good accurate post. Will Smith's boats suck air where the holes are then have small steps with mutiple outlets to aerate the bottom. The design flat out works. I have a single step with a single hole, on each side of the boat (look at Twisted Styx-Simmons Marine 34' Phantom, World Champs for the past few years in P3 & P4).

If you see it in person it is much apparenent from the transom. Will had had this in his design before 1999.

You can see the air hole just above the trailer's second tire on my 34' Phantom. But you do not see the step, but it is there. Picture of port and starboard, holes on both sides of the boat. It work so well, that my depth gauge will not work when running do to the air running down the bottom while on plane (sender is in the boat/engine compartment, not externally fixed on the bottom)

Actually they all have different bottoms !!!!!

All ever build 39's ( 3 ) are completeley different on the hull.

The only one still original is the MID AMERICAN Boat

Davis motorsport ( X reichman's ) is filled in complete.

X fury, is filled in partley and has now arnesons with a filler plate out of aluminum .

ALL OF THESE 39's NEED BIG POWER or they will not run.
with 525's the 2 fastest where Fury #1 107 MPH and MidAmerican #2 103 MPH
Reichman's boat never ran over 96 MPH with the 525's

Other then that ,,great handling !!!!!
Here is a pic of the other 2.

scott i was in the Illmors and Arnisons at 107 at 3/4 throttle ,, so i would say the Illmor boat was so far the fastest,i don,t know what the top speed would be,, but it would be 2 or 4 more mphs.
