Anyone know where to get a carb rebuild kit for a Onan 4000 microquiet (4KY) generator? An RV dealership here quoted me over $500 for a new carbueretor as EPA restricts them from rebuilding them and supposedly throws heavy fines if they are caught. This thing has only 24 hours on it and is started monthly.

Whats up? Nothing on there website? Take it a part and see what type of seals it needs. Or bring it over and let me rebuild it.

Hi Scott,
Haven't had time to look on the Onan site. On my 18th shift in 22 days, down to my last pair of clean underwear! Will pull the carb off the generator and maybe bring it by as soon as I have time. Sounds like we may need to look at this over a couple beers ...

it can't be much more than a lawnmower carb, but let me know how it goes, I have an onan 4000 in the motorhome and I need to do the carb on it too....

We are an Onan distributor and warranty facility for their welding machine engines. If you have no luck with you other sources PM me the model numbers and serial number of the gen set or a P/N. Ill see what I can do.
Ive never heard of a $500 carb from them but Ive also never heard of one that couldnt be rebiult either, matbe its something different.

11-21-2008 05:33 PMWhy would it need a carb after 24 hours? I have an older Onan 6.5. Back then it was the same motor as the 4.0 but that was long ago. I was able to order parts from the name below.

I would ask about their product called B4 or C4 or something like that. It is some special carb cleaner they recomend. It does work.
I also went to the forum below and was able to get all manuals etc. There are a couple of guys on the site that know what they are talking about and are very helpful.

Coach and generator are a 2002, only 14500 mi. Never a problem with storage in a climate-controlled building, but brought it out to the Vegas desert in May. Apparrently I haven't started the generator frequently enough to keep the fuel from gumming up in the carb with the heat and lack of humidity here.
Have the carb off now and a rebuild kit on the way from PPL in Houston for $45.00. Might just try squirting some carb cleaner through it without taking it apart and see it that works ...

WOW, who is PPL, other than 1/3 the price of the Onan kit? Looks like I need a new source please
FWIW, todays fuels trash carbs in no time. You need to load the genset at least once a month for about 16 minutes to keep fresh fuel in the bowl and avoid issues like this. Or, would it be possible to install a fuel valve on it and run it dry, then drain the bowl?
