Just got off the phone with Typhoon. Sounds as if there are going to be about 30 boats in attendance for the race. Some won't be there until later today.
In SVL it looks as if there will be three. Typhoon, Tug It, and Wild Ride. Should be a blast with two boats out for the first time this year. I can't wait to hear how they do.
The weather today is supposed to be a Hi of 70 and a low of 56. West Winds at 5 to 10 MPH.
Tomorrow is supposed to be a Hi of 68 and a low of 62. Southwest winds at 10 to 15.
Water temp today is 60.8. Kind of cold if you get hosed....
Waves show 1.2 feet today and 2 foot forecast for tomorrow.

05-12-2012 07:16 PMEvent Review from the Baltimore Sun
Ocean City will hold powerboat races Sunday
Bull on the Beach Grand Prix first event of the season

Powerboat racing has been compared with NASCAR or Indy car racing.
It's not only wetter, but it can be wilder, according to Ed Smith, president of the New Jersey-based Offshore Powerboat Association.
"You're dealing with Mother Nature," Smith said. "Every event is different. It's chaos."
Local fans can get their thrills Sunday when OPA Racing will hold the first event of the 2012 season in Ocean City.
After a year's hiatus, the Bull on the Beach Grand Prix has returned. Two races will be held, beginning at noon and 2 p.m. The race will take place on a 5-mile course between 3rd Street and 34th Street. Smith said that he expects "between 30-40 boats" to test the waters on Saturday.
The Maryland Natural Resources Police announced last week that a section of the Atlantic Ocean off Ocean City will be closed between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturday. The closed area is between 3rd and 30th streets, extending one mile off-shore.
Phil Houck, the owner of Bull on the Beach and the race's sponsor, said that he is putting up "around $25,000" of the $45,000 needed to put on the event after the race was not held a year ago because of financial reasons.
"I want to promote Ocean City," Houck said.
Fans can watch from the shore for free or, for a fee, watch from a party boat close to the race course, Smith said.
Houck, whose boat has won two world and one U.S. championship in the past three years, said that boat races will have to undergo a "dunk" test on Saturday to insure they can extricate themselves from a capsized boat. Three races died during an event last year in Key West, Fla., Houck said.
The boats can get up to around 115 miles an hour on this course, Smith said.
Smith said that the Ocean City event, one of two in Maryland this season (the other off Solomons Island in September) "is like a vacation because there are so many other things to do."

05-13-2012 12:06 PMThe water appears to be a bit rougher than yesterday. The Castle in the Sand camera should be really close to the North turn. We'll see. We'll probably slam it so hard it will go off line...
I still have not heard the final boat count. Testing yesterday had some decent water conditions for some air shots. I have confirmation of 17 boats running right now. But, there are more they said than that, I just don't have the names of the boats yet.
The cell reception there sucks....Getting bad advice is unfortunate, taking bad advice is a Serious matter!!

R-Rated 38' Fountain in pits for sale, Strictly Business 35' Fountain in pits not racing(not counted in the boat count)
Like you I added what I know, 5 & 6 being the tough ones to remember exactly who is there, but was told the boat count for each class.
****rumor only**** SVL was instructed that they could run as a class with no purse or race in C4 for the purse. I DO NOT KNOW IF THAT IS TRUE AND IF SO WHAT THEY DECIDED. So I dont know where to place them so they can stand alone.
On a serious note, I dont care about past and strife, I hope Jim S is ok, cause I know 2 things about him, he works like a slave and something is wrong physically if he doesnt show to a race. Prayers and thoughts go out, I hope he is ok and is back soon so we can continue the strife
Dee just text "Race 1 complete, incident free" I do not know any unofficial results, but she is on turn 1

I do know that if they did stuff and break it was not during testing. Attached is a pic from pre-race this morning. PFE is the second boat from photographer (I believe Ron Polli) with the hatch up

05-13-2012 03:06 PMJust talked to Rick, 2TR, and they did stuff the boat in the race. He and Gary are both a little sore, but fine. The boat is split down pretty good about 1/4 of the way back. Pulled the deck up off of the Starboard side, and broke most of the bulkheads. They were pushing to stay in 4th at the time. He said the water kicked up pretty big, possible 4 to 6's....
Teague just spun out in turn 1, is underway again....Getting bad advice is unfortunate, taking bad advice is a Serious matter!!
