Sadly, those are still very much in demand on some of the boats out there!

I was standing in a engine compartment when a driveline let go while testing once. I was checking for water leaks at 100 mph. I had just been standing on its cover moments before. I was standing next to the fwd engine when it went. I jumped up between the canopies as I saw parts jumping like popcorn. Art heard the noise and let off as I was jumping so I landed grasping the fwd lift eyes on the deck.

We returned to the shop replaced the oil lines cleaned up and headed to Ft Meyers. I met Jeff H at exit 264 in NC on 95. He had a new driveline and trim pump. Proceeded to the race site and finished the repairs there.

I sure was lucky I still had legs and was alive after that test run.

Thats exactly why I used to bring Billy aka Ron Jeromy with me in years past with previous boats. He used to live in the bilge.

I raced with a guy named Willie Schaefer from K&K outboard on Long Island in an event back in 1965. We had a problem with my engines fouling plugs (twin inline 6 Merc's). During the race...he tried to change them..... while we were running! He did manage to get about 2 done...and gave up after much grunting and cursing.

How about sliding under a very hot Diesel engine running full throttle in a storm with the Boat rolling hard side to side and nailing the planking from the inside that just happened to split open right there of all places and water was pouring in through the open joint.
