GM will be Obamanized. every single american will own part of GM, bought and paid for by those of use who actually pay taxes.

Even if GM fails, I really don't believe they will go out of business. Just a restructuring.

Restructuring is what GM NEEDS TO DO in order to survive. The Chinese cars arrive for the 2010 model year. No one will want a ( base)cheap GM, Ford or Mopar car for 12 grand when they can buy a Chery or Geely for 8 grand brand new with warranty. Only way to save, not put off certain death but actually save the big three will be file, fire, restructure and come back WAY leaner on the cost of production side to compete. As for GM engines, wj\ho really cares. World and Dart make blocks, heads, lots of crank and cam manufacturers etc. No foreseeable supply problems there.

11-17-2008 08:31 PMI have built and had engines built by others where the only GM part was the timing chin cover sheet metal.

I don't see GM Failing having any real affect on the Marine market place. First off GM will just restructure, so they're not going anywhere. Second, if the economy doesn't get any better it really won't matter because most of the boat builders WILL go out of business. Big picture the only thing I see that really could happen would be a bigger jump in engine quality. You'll see some more cheap offshore engine parts that will break down even quicker, and then you'll see guys with better quality stuff as well. This means engines will be cheaper than black Merc stuff (and break even sooner) or they'll be much better through the after market guys like Dean...

11-18-2008 01:05 PMIn the end, if GM falls from the face of the Earth, we'll all have much bigger problems than where to get motors and parts.

11-25-2008 09:41 PMEven if GM restructures which it looks like its going to have to do eventually, all the current performance and marine engine programs could be in a real high risk elimination area which would be devastating to the marine and aftermarket engine businesses. Lets hope its a lot more painless than that and product pricing and availability does not get fractured badly!
