Recent currents have been pushing the oil slick to the west, toward the Mississippi Delta and areas west of the Delta. The slick is now over 50 miles south of the Mississippi Gulf coast.

While this is very unfortunate news for coastal Louisiana, this development reinforces the confidence of the race producers and sponsors that Smokin' the Sound May 20-23 will deliver another exciting and memorable season opener for the Offshore Super Series.
The Coast Guard and local law enforcement support continues to signal full steam ahead. Based on the results of a meeting Monday at Sector Gulfport, Race Producer Woody Bailey yesterday told his advertising agency to start running all scheduled TV, radio and print ads in full force. If you are coming in from out of town and haven't secured your plans yet, go to www.smokinthesound.com to find all the info you need to get yourself dialed in!
Also all plans are set for the huge Smokin' the Lake Drag Boat Races at The Dock on Gulfport Lake this weekend, May 15 and 16. 70-80 boats will compete for top honors; and don't forget the First Annual Smokin' Poker Run on Friday, May 14 also based from The Dock Restaurant. For more info on these events, please visit the Smokin' website.
The ten-day forecast calls for some clouds, some sun, highs in the mid 80's and lows in the low 70's. Bring your beach clothes, sunscreen and hats for during the day and your favorite offshore racing team gear for the evening festivities. See you there!
