At least get an alarm company sign and stick it in the yard somewhere.
Warning: There will be no warning shots.

Sorry to hear that Patrick. A few years back we woke up at 1AM with a guy crawling into our bedroom window. Fortunately he was caught and lucky he wasn't killed.
To this day it's sad to say, but we still live in fear of it when the windows are open. I couldn't walk into my home alone for 6+ months after that without being scared to death and checking every corner and closet. It's total violation of one's privacy, and I'm sorry you are all going through this.Queen of Bammin'

Then I'll be watching their homicide investigation where the detective promises that deadbeat's family, "I'll do everything I can to catch his killer."
When my apartment was cleaned out in college, I asked the investigating officer, "if I happened to sitting on the couch with aloaded shotgun when these punks kicked my door open and I unloaded a bunch of hot lead in them, what would you do. Cop said, if there are more bullets in the front than the back, we'll take care of the paperwork. You will have saved us from dealing with the guy many times in the future."
God, I love New Orleans police.
So sorry about the break in. Terrible feeling of vulnerability. Hope the family can regain their sense of safety soon.

03-24-2010 09:50 AMDon't despair. They'll certainly find the guy and deal with him.
I'd like to be there to see the horror on his face when he receives his suspended sentence and his 90 days of probation- for the 4th time this year.
When I was a kid and my father was stationed at Ft. Stewart Georgia (back when it was a bump in the middle of a huge swamp), I used to see the chain gangs working on the roads. It was a double-deterrent. The guys that were there knew they didn't want to ever end up there again, and the people driving by knew they never wanted to end up there in the first place. There's little deterrence in our present system.

03-24-2010 10:21 AMThat sucks. Alarms and camera both. Not all that expensive.
Surprised you would be having any issues with State Farm......Getting bad advice is unfortunate, taking bad advice is a Serious matter!!

03-24-2010 10:28 AMNot really. That sheriff in Arizona puts them in pink jumpsuits and makes them sleep in tents. That's probably the extreme.
I see the non-violent offenders doing roadside work, but that's voluntary- and like a benefit to them. They get out in the fresh air and do some light duty roadside trash pickup stuff.
Alabama tried it in the 90's but it didn't last long. Too many hassles from liberal court challenges.
