12-20-2009 09:37 AMOffshore Racing wasnīt designed to be a spectator sport, it's for people or companies with's lots of money to push the envelope of endurance technology and hopefully put a trophy on a mantle. It's man vs the elements, not like boats with like engines running in circles.

12-20-2009 10:20 AMKinda nice to hear about things like this, plus be able to discuss stuff we have no idea what's really happening......
Thanks Matt
And, Matt and Tank would be right when they said if true, this would be the first time Cigerette and Mercedes collaborated to build a boat together.
And, Gino's Mercedes boat is sweet. Extremely tastefully done and runs faster than Cat Killer......

12-20-2009 10:43 AMAMG is nice but Renntech is better....
I think Gino's MTI is a Mercedes theme more than an AMG theme.
BradZ is right on...AMG is a tuner that does the engine, suspension, badges. If the boat has Mercury power then it really is just going to be a theme boat with badges. If it does have AMG power then someone will complain that it isn't Mercury reliable, Mercury serviceable etc. I strongly suspect it will have Mercury power with AMG bling on it.
I would love to hear what Randy Scism thinks of the project.
In less than 60 days everyone can make their own judgement.....

12-20-2009 11:33 AMhttp://www.cigaretteracing.com/legendary/ when it gets to the warehouse scene with the covered boat/ covered car notice the whole scene is very blurred except for the Mercury box on the left, looks like an engine crate with a Mercury logo.
Maybe AMG is going to tune the suspension on the trailer?

12-20-2009 12:32 PMI'm thinking of collaborating with Viagra on a boat project. The engine hatch, seat bottoms, drives, deck hatches, etc, will all rise at exactly the right time. I have been dealing directly with them (I was a test pilot, 37 emissions over Biscayne Bay) for some time. I intend to er, unveil it at midnight Thursday at a brothel to be named later (no, that's the name of the brothel, "Later") Matt knows where it is......... So does Skip. Y'all come...... PS. The party only lasts for four hours.

The MTI Mercedes boat has a lot of AMG reference. The cockpit has a large logo that mimics the ///AMG with a ///MTI.
And the Sterling engines are very cool.

12-20-2009 01:03 PMI bet they will have mercury power in the boat but pull it with a truck with a mercedes motor. I think it is different when amg and cigarette collaborate on a project over a theme boat the difference being that amg will probably donate the mercedes stuff and the owner of the mti probably had to pay for his when it was built.

12-20-2009 01:25 PMBrownie,
I think a Levitra-themed boat is a better idea for you. You'll extend your boating season.

But the true followers of the industry will see that this is actually the first time this type of thing has ever happened.
^
Now this was your sentence I hooked on as it obviously wasnīt at all.
All the other German high end makes have done it already before ..even Audi.

sorry you were confused. Trust when I say Im very much aware of collaberations with auto makers (I wakeboarded behind a friends corvette edition Malibu for years). My point was, and still is: although there was a Mercedes concept boat by a private party, AMG has never collaberated on a boat before.

12-21-2009 09:06 AMI can see AMG getting into the business if they view Illmor as a marketing success due to their unique engine.
They may even make a drive, I'm sure it will sell on reputation just as the BMW's did when they came onto the market ( I was a Merc BMW dealer in Oz)
BMW went about it the wrong way and it cost them, AMG now have the hindsight of why a German company went wrong that thought it had good engineering but no clue about boats and only a European view of the industry
EPA rules may well push out all the small players in the engine business in the next couple of years, especially if there are several big players lobbying the Gov versus many small.
P1....Mercury versus Illmor versus AMG versus...got to be more interesting and bring more money
