They will absorb moisture from the top down.
Meaning any puddled rain water can and may seep into the
balsa. it collects in Bildge areas. There is Balsa in all the flat running surfaces. The top of the tunnels. The actual running surfaces of the sponsons.
If water penetrates the upper layer from any defect or old rigging holes
screw holes etc.. It will be absorbed by the balsa.
The new end grain balsa is prepregnated and does not wick the water like the
older stuff.
Tapping it with a hammer will most certainly reveal it.
Like Tango has mentioned. He knows beacuse I showed him some areas
on mine
Paint all bildge surfaces with awlgrip. if your boat is dry this will help.
Cat 5 was not one I looked at. But it was for sale 4 years ago also.
I hate to say it but most of the sellers were not even aware.
Back to the original topic.
1) Age. Is financing available?
2) price. Its a lot of cake.
3) insurance... Good luck
4) Size. If ya ever seen one up front there freakin huge.
5) trailering.... Mine from pintle to drive guard is 59 feet. 80 with the horse.
oh yeah its 12 feet wide.
Theres the reasons these boats are still for sale.
However I will tell ya this Nothing will be there with ya in the rough other
then another 46

I doubt its lighter, but Freedom will bust 150 now.. Check youtube for the latest video.. the 46 is like flyin an aircraft carrier down the lake. Unless you're in big water on the ocean, you're not seein what the boat was designed to do! SKATE! (not that Ive owned one or could even consider one, just been in Freedom a few times)
