i saw them do it on the discovery channel when they were doing some arctic crossing. i think they used ether though...

I have done this with a can of Brake cleaner. Usually took us 4 or 5 tries before it would seat the bead correctly....

I watched a half chitfaced guy do it with oxy/accetaline after trying every type of aerosol on the shelf. It blew both sides of the bead to the outsides of the rim.

Friend of mine said they did that all the time with ether to set big tractor tires.

Tyson did that on my spare trailer tire last Spring with brake cleaner. Wouldnt have believed it unless I saw it.

I use to work for a golf cart company when i was sixteen. Thats how we use to do it, lost a few eyebrows learning the proper technique though.

Used to do it mounting drag slicks all the time. Helps if the tire has soft sidewalls, like slicks, or large mudtires etc.
Brake cleaner used to be very flammable. When they had to make it more enviro-friendly the recipe changed. Lost the flammability ( mostly a good thing) much less effective, unfortunately.2005 Formula 330ss
