M-Con leads class after Day 1 of Key West powerboat races
KEY WEST, Fla. (AP) — Offshore powerboat racing team M-Con leads the Super Cat class after the first of three race days during the Race World Offshore Key West Championships in the Florida Keys.
Driver Myrick Coil of Osage Beach, Missouri, and throttleman Tyler Miller of Wathena, Kansas, took a first-lap lead and maintained it throughout Wednesday’s first event.
M-Con outpaced rivals including Canada Homes, throttled by Miami’s John Tomlinson and driven by Lorne Leibel of Toronto, Canada, who finished in second place.
Leading the Extreme class is Huski-Alegra Motorsports. Headquartered in Stuart, Florida, the boat is driven by Carlos De Quesada and throttled by Steve Curtis.
The Super Stock race included a dramatic flip when CMR, based in Fort Myers, Florida, overturned after the second lap. Race officials said driver Eric Belisle and throttleman Shaun Torrente were uninjured.
Performance Boat Center took a first-day lead in the 12-boat Super Stock field. The boat was driven by Coil and throttled by Rusty Williams, also of Osage Beach.
Boatfloater.com ended the Modified V race in the lead, powered by the father-and-son team of throttleman Steve Kildahl and driver Stephen Kildahl, both from Sarasota, Florida.
Competitors in the fleet of nearly 50 registered boats are vying for world championships in 14 classes, including four Union Internationale Motonautique world titles. The action is to continue Friday and conclude Sunday, with four multi-class races scheduled each day.

It was an exciting day of racing. Super Stock was the show of the day again. Pretty good day for M Con to overtake Canada homes for the win.
I find it much better when the leader of the first lap does not run away and win. Today for the most part was not that.
Congrats to the winners.

I noticed most boats total time increased from race 1 to race 2
Except Canada homes ran Identical times. Within .1 second race to race.
CoCo Monkey ran only 7 seconds longer.
I find that quite remarkable.
A few boats however, did better their times from day one.

11-12-2021 09:26 PMI can understand that, the boat is not legal for Supercat. It has over 60 extra HP per engine; not to mention the cams are not legal, the CuIn is not legal, etc. It is an extreme or Class 1 boat only. It should be running Class 1, not some special 860 Supercat made-up class that really does not exist.
Getting bad advice is unfortunate, taking bad advice is a Serious matter!!

M-Con rallies, keeps lead at Key West powerboat races
KEY WEST, Fla. (AP) — Myrick Coil and Tyler Miller maintained their lead in the Super Cat class Friday during the second competition day for powerboaters at the Race World Offshore Key West Championships in the Florida Keys.
Coil of Osage Beach, Missouri, and Miller of Wathena, Kansas, surged ahead in M-Con during the seventh lap after trailing Canada Homes for more than half the race.
Canada Homes, throttled by Miami’s John Tomlinson and driven by Lorne Leibel of Toronto, Canada, is in second going into Sunday’s final day of racing.
Huski-Alegra Motorsports, headquartered in Stuart, Florida, also repeated a Wednesday victory in the Extreme class to stay atop that divisional leaderboard. The boat is driven by Carlos De Quesada and throttled by Steve Curtis.
The day’s most dramatic incident occurred during the Stock V competition when MSP Recovery Racing/The Firm Racing flipped. Officials said driver Pete Riveiro and throttleman Richard Garcia, both of Key Largo, Florida, were uninjured.
Racing was temporarily suspended. When it resumed, Maryland-based LSB Hurricane of Awesomeness, driven by Brit Lilly and throttled by Kevin Smith, replicated its Wednesday win to continue leading the Stock V class.
Despite finishing third in Friday’s Modified V race, Boatfloater.com remains in the top spot based on points. Throttleman Steve Kildahl and his son, driver Stephen Kildahl, are both from Sarasota, Florida.
Competitors in the fleet of nearly 50 boats are vying for world championships in 14 classes, including four Union Internationale Motonautique world titles.

11-14-2021 06:38 PMRWO did a nice job on this race .
The mishaps were handled well .
turn one crashes are always intense . so a red flag was warrented .
pier one turn was obvious much quicker to be safe to run under yellow .
very good calls by race control all week . ( dale and lisa owens )
looking forward to new things .
new classes bring new tech and more safety.
it also puts older worn out hulls into p- class where they can run slower and teach new crews
very good week .
thanx freeze frame

The only suggestion I have is if there is only one boat in a class it gets bumped to the faster class. No more running uncontested for a Championship!
