I no longer know what my own politics are. I used to think I was a conservative, but the religious right hijacked that. Then I thought I might be a Republican, but Trump hijacked that. Do we need a party called Non-Socialist Fairly Conservative But Not Freaking Crazy party?

12-13-2015 12:37 AMI can't see that scenario playing out. The Dems have to be wondering what the heck they're gonna do in the long term. If anybody but Trump runs against her, I don't believe she has any chance. And even then, all they'll have is playing the sex/race card against the really old/tired/scum-bag lady card.

He's a Canadian-American.
I would be concerned with the Canadization (beyond Florida) of the US.

01-19-2016 08:30 PMWell, the primary's may be over.
Palin announced she is endorsing Trump. That, combined with the lawsuit on Cruz's ability to run and his couple of unreported loans and the idiocy of the New York comment, probably ends Number 2 and gives Trump the very conservative. He was already the front runner by a bunch.
And, one of the investigators working on Clinton's emails said they have found some above Top Secret: Inspector General Charles I. McCullough sent a letter to lawmakers last Friday saying that several dozen additional classified emails have been found, including ones containing information from so-called "special access programs," which have a classification higher than top secret.
Trump against Bernie anyone?Getting bad advice is unfortunate, taking bad advice is a Serious matter!!

I was going to throw up in my mouth no matter what two names he typed.
Except maybe Kasich. Not that I'm a fan. But he could be somewhat sane.
Trump would be as wrong as Obama, just in the other direction. Hilary would be, well... let me just say Hilary. Bernie is a socialist.

01-19-2016 09:30 PMWe'll see what happens, but it looks like it's over to me.
Kasich is to boring to get the votes required to win the primary (I believe). He is definitely sharp though.
Trump getting the backing of a darling of the Tea Party and Evangelical Conservatives solidifies his control over the Republican base in my mind. I can't see anyone dislodging him now. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't see how.Getting bad advice is unfortunate, taking bad advice is a Serious matter!!

I'm not going to get into the politics. Just Hillary is a nasty old lying b$tch! Now the legal part I could be way wrong. My Fathers side of the family is American. I have a cousin who is a lawyer. He worked in Boston. I believe because he was born in Canada and only his father was American, he had to go through the naturalization process. If both parents where American, he would have had automatic by "birth" citizenship. Cruz does have a problem because his father wasn't an American citizen when he was born. It takes two American parents to produce a birth right citizen while abroad.

There are two types of American citizens. Natural born citizens are born on US soil, regardless of citizenship of either parent or to a parent who is a US citizen temporarily living abroad as a US citizen. Naturalized citizens are not born on US soil, but later become citizens through process. Ted Cruz' mom was a US citizen, simply visiting Canada on a work visa. This meant that Cruz did NOT have to go through the naturalization process, and could claim immediate US citizenship. His mom never became a Canadian, his dad was a Cuban. Ted is a natural born citizen under the law, despite being born in Alberta to an American citizen. If his American mom would have been visiting space when he was born, as long as she was an American at the time, and not a citizen of Mars, he's good to go.
Hope this helps.

To put it another way, if a fetus leaves the US travelling in the uterus of an American citizen, the uterus is like a diplomatic pouch. If the baby is born while the mom is outside the US, the baby becomes a US citizen the moment it enters the US. If the baby never comes back, no citizenship. So it is not automatic, but is activated by re-entry. That re-entry, in my understanding, is not a "naturalization" but a "birth." The difference between your cousin and Ted Cruz is mom vs. dad.
Interestingly, there is a similar principle for figuring out if you are Jewish. Mom a Jew? No problem.

I just called my cousin. Id be right if Cruz's father didn't have a green card at the time of birth. You'd be right if Cruz's father had green card at the time of birth. Just having an American parent doesn't automatically give citizenship. Citizens of the United States at birth need both parents to have legal status in the U.S., one must be a citizen and the other needs to be a U.S national or green card holder.

You can have a right to citizenship based on one parent. But that doesn't make you native born.
