That picture is how i remember the area... from the late 70s.
I won't go back... i want to remember it that way.
The last time i was there, i sat and spoke to Don was 1983.
Anyone remember "Embers" from Miami Beach during that era? Best ribs ever!

Charlie,
Referring to post #41,
What length was was Hustler IV? Also, It seems I have miss-tiled the post.
As you can see, There is IV on the left . The other to shots are of Hustler V.
Roger seems to think this is the same boat as Thumper too and Head Hunter.
Although now converted to a single, There is evidence of a flywheel explosion that penetrated the hull during the same race of post #41 on the port side. The boat is now parked at his shop.
What are your thoughts?

"Spirit of Panama"
Owned by the same guys as "RIO"
Later sold to Art Swift and renamed "Daddy Cool"

09-17-2009 01:57 PMCrise was affiliated with Bertram and was the co-creator of the Miami-Nassau race, if I'm not mistaken. I also think he was a politician as well.

02-05-2013 12:50 PMHi Anchored,
I was wondering if you have these photos in a higher resolution. We are working on a pilot for a boat show and would like to include them. I"m also trying to reach Mr. Munn for permission, so if you have any details on him, I'd love to compare notes. PLease email me at the address below if possible> I appreciate these great photos and they will make the history portion of the segment come to life!

02-08-2013 08:24 PMSorry Jeff, just saw your question. That was a 30 foot boat the original Thunderbird Formula was raced by Dick Genth, after he sank the special Italian racer. That Italian job went down during a Miami to Nassau race. Genth decided to move back to the American designs as the Italian one didn't prove to be that fast.
The hull was the same, but I think they tried different deck designs on the Magnums after Billy's boat.Light travels faster than sound....that is why some people appear bright until we hear them speak!!

02-08-2013 08:30 PMRed Crise was a promoter of the most outstandign and outlandish motosports festivals ever conceived by man or beast. Or so he wouldmtell us on a regular basis. He promoted midget car races back in Indiana and when he moved to Florida, he shiftedmovermto powerboats. He would make the most astounding claims just to get coverage in the newspapers. He would change the rules on you in mid race if it wasn't turning out the way he wanted. He had some kind of deal from the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism to get as much motorsport activity going and thus bring more people over from Florida. He had the Bahamas Speed Weeks for sports car racing over there. One of the ealy entrants was Roger Penske as a driver.

Sounds like KW Softball Tournaments. One of the guys who runs the Mens League actually said "That is why we have rules, so we can change them"
