    Last year in Biloxi I shot one of my favorite sequences of shots ever.

    Doc was definitely faster, Randy and Colby wanted the win in the very worse way. They tried a pass move outside to inside that I still recall every time I discuss SVL racing with anyone. Here it is again....

    Chatting and emailing with Woody about the Biloxi event in particular, and their area of the Gulf Coast in general, there were a couple of things which will stick with me. One of them is the passion with which they love powerboating, and the second is the passion for their area of the country. It is almost like a close knit family if you are from anywhere along the entire stretch of the coast along the northern edge of the Gulf of Mexico. It doesn't matter if it's Texas or Florida or anywhere in between, you're just part of this great big family and they will help in any way they can to make things work out. Maybe that's one of the reasons Katrina, and the BP oil rig explosion, did not make the huge impact for years and years which was predicted by many of the "Northern" experts.

    This event, and they are going to have to come up with a name for the entire event I think as it continues to expand, is an incredible accomplishment for any location in the world. When I had completed the phases needed for the stories, I began to wonder what is up their sleeve for the next one, and the next, and the one after that, etc. The others that come to mind with a week-long venue of performance boating similar in one way or another are;

    San Diego's Bayfair
    Sarasota's Suncoast Festival
    Seattle's Seafair
    Key West World's
    Havasu's Desert Storm
    and Biloxi's Smokin' the Sound and Lake

    Not a real long list, and if you think there are some others I missed, let me know.

    This year in Biloxi there are several different venues, each of which on their own, would be worth attending.

    There are;

    Poker Run with some of the sharpest boats in the offshore performance directory.
    P1 Panthers, possibly the largest boat count yet.
    APBA/UIM Sanctioned World Record Kilo run. With a shot at setting the new world record for a prop-driven boat.
    OSS/APBA Offshore race with the largest combined purse in at least a decade, maybe ever???
    And the DSRA drag boat races. Plus all the parties and get togethers associated with the racers and participants.

    I've got a few more tidbits coming up, but I sure hope to see everyone there who can possibly make it.

    Ratickle, we appreciate the kind words about the people of the Gulf Coast. Most of us try to make others feel comfortable when they visit our unique part of the world. Thanks again and we hope you enjoy the races and your trip to Biloxi.

    The Offshore Super Series Powerboat Racing Series and Smokin' The Sound In Biloxi, MS.

    For Immediate release:
    April 20, 2012

    Biloxi, MS: OSS is proud to be a part of another racing weekend in our "hometown" on the Gulf Coast April 26-29. It will be a full weekend meeting old and new members of the racing family and honoring Joey Gratton. His family, Blake and Brock will be racing on Saturday and Sunday while Priscilla will be assisting OSS staff. All OSS racers should be thinking about your unique opportunity to nominate a fellow racer for the annual Randy Linebach Lighthouse Award dedicated to sportsmanship in racing.

    There will be a challenge for all during the APBA and UIM sanctioned Kilo Run on April 28. This is an historic event that has not been held in nearly a decade. There are many incentives for this historic race weekend including a $50,000.00 prize purse and an incredible $30,000.00 tow incentive for the first thirty boats that register to race OSS, receiving $1000.00 each.

    OSS welcomes back Greg Bent from Contender Boats Dealer | Sea Hunt Boats Dealer | New Orleans, Louisiana | New and Used Boats which is the Gulf Coast's largest dealer in sales and service of performance boats. Bent will be bringing in three boats for course set-up and to use for pace boats.

    The Biloxi poker run will take place on Saturday, April 28, coordinated by Stu Jones and his Florida Powerboat Club team, Florida Powerboat Club: Powerboats, Poker Run Events, Powerboat Television, Powerboat Video and Photography, Powerboat Magazine: Powerboating In Paradise. Please go to the official website Smokin' The Sound to register for the run and see the course.

    Race officials and staff are thrilled to be working with the VA Gulf Coast Health Care System to bring a race team to our vets that are on property as well as hosting them to view the race. OSS racer, Naval Air Traffic Controller Second Class Josh Lamirito, will be assisting staff for the weekend and working with our veterans.

    Race Producer Woody Bailey is excited to have Clear Channel news radio station 104.9 broadcast the Sunday races. Worldwide fans can go to: www.newsradio1049fm.com.
