petes a great guy and def influential, but if not for guys like carl k the sport wouldn't exist. peter didn't invent cats but he sure did make them better.
anyone know if hledin every worked with mike peters or which was first? i think it was mp.

Agree that Hledin is definitely a huge influence on the sport.
But, I'm standing by Carl as #2 behind Don.
An argument could be made that Don would have never made it to where he did without Carl K's innovations.
I think the same could be said for Peter.
I think Pete could certainly be a top 10 contender, but not number 2, and I mean that with the utmost respect."Keep the bottle on the bar Ira, I won't be long".

Ha Ha Ha you always are so negative , and to tell you the truth i pulled drawings out of Petes waste basket from MIchael Peters when we were re-doing a step insert and typical canopy on a Cig 45 race boat which i will post on this thread but non the less Peter dosent have all that razzle dazzle B/S as far as a degree goes like M. Peters has...... just common sense with a degree in ........................and to tell you the truth i can preannounce the word better then i could ever spell it .

Really....... and lets talk about building a boat today with newer technology and composites considering old school is just that ,and not to mention all of the boats that have come out of Douglas Marine's stable from Platinum ,Fountain , Cig , ect , ect , and who in the industry ( builder ) in the past has that under there belt ?

Artie, I'm not arguing with you at all about Pete's input on hulls and materials. Not in the least.
But, without the propulsion and controls developed by Carl K those hulls would be nothing. He wouldn't have had the oppurtunity to push the limits - I see it as a push/pull between the hull builders and the propulsion builders. Each challenging each other.
Kinda like the old TV commercial "you got your peanut butter on my chocolate", "No, you got your chocolate in my peanut butter".
Instead, try " My boat will break your motors", "No, my motors will destroy your boat"
Sure, there are other power packages available now, but at the time, Mercury was the most innovative."Keep the bottle on the bar Ira, I won't be long".
