Attached are photos from Robert Kraft who was an accountant at Magnum in the early days of Apeco. He has more photos that he is trying to locate, and most of them will be from 188st.
For the photo with the 29"9' Thumper which we have the only one remaining and was a West Cost boat from 1989 till 2007...does any one have any more photos.I have collected a few, however having some difficulty in constructing the rear hatch which was stolen in Marina DelRay.Rebuilt 427 tall deck will be put on the dyno, the 6th by Bob Oetringer, motor rebuilt by Roger Munn.
That Imp has a small block Chevy and sits in storage in the Chicago area. Bud

Thumper Too is being restored to as it left the factor.Engine has been rebuilt and will be dynoed on 11/7.Boat will be painted in it's original scheme this fall ,all hardware is being re-chromed,high speed Danfords will be rebuilt.New trailer and then it will be brought back to IL.for rigging and final prep and decals. Hope to have for the nostalgia runs next year.
Just found records that Thumper Too won OP II in 74 Jim Armington,Head Hunter in 75,77,&78 owner by Vaughn Szarka.Leviathan owned by S.Jackson in72 & Boar Hog II J. Fernandez which was set up with outboards. Only 5-
29'9" were built this was the last one and the only one remaining. BudLast edited by Bud Weisner; 10-23-2011 at 04:04 PM.

And in this pic of the Michigan racers from around 1974, [Lil RHINO] Kenny Black & Sandy Black when they just started racing his Mag, it even still has the stock bucket seats. Next in line Wally Harper's LiL SMIDGEN, than the Donzi Doral that Jim Krause raced, P-300 HEAT WAVE, that I have now.

10-23-2011 08:39 PMWhat was the class called that Thumper ran in? Do you have any details of its rules at the time?

The class was 0P II and could not be over 30 ft in length. Some old timers can tell you how long that class lasted. Bud

11-22-2011 09:09 PMInteresting read. I love it the twin outboard finished the race with a hole in the block and 5 working cylinders to finish the 200 mile race in 4th place over all.
