So I`m still looking at bigger boats but I think I`m limited due to my driveway so I feel like I`m wasting my time with some 35' boats cause I won`t be able to make the turn.. you guys have WAYYYY more experience, what do you think??
Right now with the 25' AT I have to take a pretty wide turn so it straightens out before my gate.
35' would have at least a 40' trailer right?.. I`m not sure how wide thou
I know fire trucks can`t make it in
heres how close the gate is to the road (14' opening)
This 11' wide trailer makes it in but then again its only 25' long

If you have time, make a scale drawing of your driveway and gate and cut out a scale truck and boat and see what fits

the pics may be deceiving but it looks like there is a toin of room. Granted you may be driving on your lawn. Also backing in may be easier than pulling in

Also notice the chain link in front on the columns..
Don, I thought of adding 2x4`s to my current trailer but figured the axles aren`t gonna be in the same place so it wouldn`t be accurate.
Backing in is impossible, its a pretty busy street. I`ve had people trying to get past me now when I`m in the opposite lane making the turn.

01-18-2011 01:34 PMIt depends on the width of the street, but it looks to be 30' wide or so. A 35' should make it no problem, but go rent a 35' trailer and find out. Can be for a car, boat, or ????
Swing way wide with a flagman or two, barely miss the pole with the tow vehicle, even if you have to back up to make it tighter, (just don't kink the tongue). And my guess is no problem....
And if that doesn't work, start your turn in the neighbors yard across the street.....Getting bad advice is unfortunate, taking bad advice is a Serious matter!!

01-18-2011 02:02 PMA 35' Fountain would work
Seriously though, do you know anyone with a 35'ish boat that you could try it with before purchasing one?

Try a goose neck trailer. I could back my Hudson 10 ton trailer w/ D3 Cat dozer in your driveway. There much better in tight areas vs a tag along.

Always come up to your drive way so the driver side is to the left , wait till you get a break in traffic and then bust a move and just F**kem all up and take your time doing it thay will all get tired of waiting and go around another way works for me when I,m backing in with a semi the more they honk the L o n g e r it takes and just laugh your azz off at them , it's all about the Attitude.

It's not that hard to do, once you figure out where and when to start to make your turn. Come in from the other side of the street, and pass the drive with the trailer about 50-60 ft. Start backing up with the wheels cut a little to angle the trailer towards the driveway. Ah, hell, way to much to try and explain here. If you need a teacher, give me a shout, and I'll be glad to show you how it's done.

01-19-2011 02:22 AMThe axles on a boat trailer are further back then on your trailer in the picture, so the angle is way better with a boat trailer. I don't think you will have any problem with a 40 foot boat and a 45 foot trailer.

Oh man,, you're golden. I would come in from whatever direction puts your driveway on the drivers side of your truck. Hug the opposite side of the streets curb (side of your driveway) so you are heading into oncoming traffic. Pass your driveway, and then point/turn towards the other side of the street (opposite of your driveway. Get it where your trailer is basically on a 45* from the curb on your driveway side, and the tail end of the trailer is almost even with the driveway entrance. Then back that sob in like us big riggers do...Hell, tony M or I can put a 53FT van trailer in your driveway if you want.
I back the semi dump trailer into driveways, jobsite entrances, etc this way all the time. Always try to back up on the drivers side, where you can stick your head out the driver window and watch the trailer if needed. Believe it or not, once you get the hang of it, the longer the trailer, the easier they are to back up.
Thumbs up for a 42 fountain!!
