Got in last evening. Jim called me as we were leaving Holland. Mapquest said 3 hours 8 minutes. It was only 2 hours 15 minutes. Of course Jim said "Don't Lollygag!"
Saw Freezeframe, jetcruzer, Mobilemercman, IMCO, Typhoon, Martin Sanborn, and others so far. & SVL's are here, will run around today and see who else is around.
Went to the River Party charity auction. There were some very nice items auctioned off. Martin is taking a couple of riders out in Dan's boat. Could have bought a hydro driving school course, etc.
The last item we watched before we left was the chance to watch the final hydro race from the judges stand, wave the checkered flag at the end of the race, and keep the checkered flag. It had already been autographed by every driver. It was a bidding war between two ladies and ended up going for $2700.....

07-12-2010 07:34 PMGreat weekend. One of the events on my "Must Do Boating Events" list....
I'll share some of the stories and interesting tidbits from the weekend this week. I got to spend time with all the SVl and SV guys and ladies. Chatted with Steve David about Hydro racing, the event, and the state of offshore now vs when he was APBA president. Made some pretty good photos for me, and saw some of our friends and members that I don't get to see enough.

07-12-2010 08:06 PMDan and Martin ran strong and had fun.
They auctioned off a ride at the charity event. It was so popular they actually ended up selling two. On tthe gun, Doc's group got them at 118 on one of the charity runs.....

07-12-2010 09:27 PMBTW...not sure if you guys heard about J.W. Meyers and the U-37 crash into the Roostertail seawall...
He lost a skid fin in the Roostertail Turn...
Here's a few of videos from diff. angles....All show the extreme nature of the crash...Yes, he was very, very lucky indeed...I thought I was gonna find him out-for-the-count or DOA, once I got over the seawall...(a recovery, rather than a rescue)...

BTW...make sure you turn the volume up, so you can really feel what went on....

07-12-2010 09:41 PMI spoke with Steve David and Meyers crew later. He was in pain at the hospital with the broken, (shattered?), foot. They were waiting for the surgeons to do the required micro surgery. They said he wanted to go back to Seattle to get it done but they would not let him fly due to the danger of blood clots.
Looking at the boat, he was very lucky it was not as bad as we all first thought.....
I will probably do another thread on the hydros....
