1997 Fountain 525SC. The boat was running fine all day until the afternoon. Then all of a sudden the motor just quit! I have no spark, and when I try to turn the engine over, the circuit trips above the key. I have already replaced the ignition module and no luck. Any help is appreciated.

05-25-2010 06:34 PMIf it is blowing the breaker I would be checking for a shorted purple wire.. Check behind the key switch , the alternator and where ever else you can see a purple wire on the engine.
Un plug the main ten pin and see if it will run with jumper leads at the engine.

05-25-2010 07:04 PMPurple is the keyed hot wire. It has power when key is on.. I have the 525 SC ignition on my engines.. It has the big finned ignition box like a MSD.. I find they are NLA.. I will look to see if I can find a basic troubleshooting guide like the thunderbolt HEI has.
I don't think the 14.6 has anything to do with your problem. Something is drawing on the purple wire to blow the breaker. Maybe a bad wire. Maybe the ignition box.. Just need to systematically go through it.

05-26-2010 06:04 PMDoes the breaker trip when you simply turn the key to the run position, or does it trip when you move the key to the start position?
