My nephew is graduating from college this week. The first from my family to ever go to college
What would be a great gift? How much is it normal to spend? We are all middle class, so no new BMW's

Congratz! I graduate from university June 16th, and my parents keep asking me what I want for a gift. I have determined that I want to travel next year for a couple months so I told them I want money for that. As impersonal as money is, I think in situations like this it might be your best bet.

2 or 3 hookers should do it. Maybe a night at the bunny ranch
Well that would probly cost more than the BMWSOS NINJA dancing on the boundaries of hell.

Have to go with By U on that one, hookers and booze. Nothin says I am proud of you and your a grown man now better than a couple bleach blondes with bolt ons and a case of capt morgan...

05-17-2010 12:28 PMWe gave Ian's nephew $500.00 for his law school graduation this past weekend and gave the same when he graduated from college. Our situation is, we do not have any kids of our own and only one nephew on Ian's side and one niece of my side, so it's a small family. To make it more of a "gift" you could always give him a gift certificate, for something he might have to buy, like if he has a job that requires tools, office supply stuff, or business clothes. By the way does he have a job? Our nephew and 65% of his class have no job prospects, a few years back just about the whole class had jobs at graduation.

Cash, cash, cash.
You're a nice uncle. I don't think I got anything from any aunt's/uncles's when I graduated. Maybe 1 or 2 of them gave me a c-note.www.blackduckcafe.net

I love my 64gb iPod Touch! You can get one for $400.
If you order it off of the Apple website, you can get it engraved.
Good luck!If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck!

Now that he's an adult, he's got to stop using hollowed out apples and lucite zepplins to smoke out... Get him a nice glass Graffix or Tokemaster!

05-17-2010 02:57 PMThere are three kinds of gifts.
There's the one you take alot of interest in finding. It matches the person exactly and is a symbol of your personal connection.
Then there's the "I bought my way out of this/I don't really care" gift that probably misses the mark badly.
The third one is cash.
The first one is really tough. Especially if you're not particularly close. The second is the trademark of the clueless aunt. The third is the most crass, but it being cash and infinitely useful, that softens the blow. In reality, if you don't have a really close relationship you're probably not hurting any feelings anyway.

05-17-2010 05:08 PMMy stepson graduated from the University of Pittsburgh honors college two weeks ago. He plans to enter law school next year.
I took him my wife and his father to dinner at Ruth Chris, many adult beverages, appetizers, cowboy ribeyes and desserts/after dinner drinks.
I showed him the bill and said " You better finish law school if you ever want to eat here again ".

When my little cousin graduated HS a few years ago I bought him a 1500 sex position book and included a note saying "this is most important book you will need to get through college". Now he is going to school somehwere in Cali and banging some porn mogul's daughter. Everytime we talk, he thanks me again for the book.
