The 27 was the same hull as the 30ft (9MM) with a 3ft plug set in the back of the mold to get a 27 (actually 26.8) The 30ft molds were from Corsa.
The big difference is that the 30ft has a raised deck and the 27 has a flat deck , its probably the raciest looking Carrera but the one with the shortest cabin.
It also has an inner liner which makes it look nice/finished but prevent the bonding of the top+bottom together which means its not as strong overall as the smaller 24ft Carrera (still way stronger than most 27s however) it has a 27deg deadrise making it a wave cutter but also sensitive to weight balnce and trim.
Only a couple single big block 27s were built, most were either dual small blocks or dual outboards . They also made many 27 Center Console Carrera back then, very popular.
With twin 260-300hp smallblocks they ran 65-67mph, with twin 400hp Merc racing smallblocks they got one running just over 80mph ,the twin outboard ones ran anywhere from low 60s to mid 70s depending on engines and setup.

Does that mean that the 27 is not bonded hull to deck, just screwed together? Would love to see pics of the one that they got over 80.
Any more pics? Does anyone have the pic from one of the ads with the side view of the SS8M?

Gorgeous and spotless boat!
Though I think the black stripes on the seat would have left
grill marks on my back in our 100+ deg summer days
Is that a TRS or Bravo drive on the back?
I think i remember you added some decent power to it,
did you ever play around with the drive height?

04-08-2010 01:45 PMYes, the black did get alittle warm! I never messed with the drive height. I got the boat to 74 MPH with a Labbed 28 Bravo prop.(Bravo 1 drive). With a higher x dim I know it would be faster. Wanted a bigger boat to go wave crushing, so I kinda lost my drive to make this one faster. It is a clean boat, sold it to a local guy, so lookin forward to seeing it this summer...

Sweet, do you know what you x dimension or prop depth was?
What all did you do to engine besides stroking it?
Did the Bravo handle that power and the weight of the boat well?

04-08-2010 05:03 PMNever measured the prop height, but the engine was a 10:1 compression 540 with ported and polished Patriot aluminum heads, dart intake, and a 1090 dominator. Crane 638 lift roller cam from Teague. Ran great. In another hull, eliminator/HTM, would have flew! Alittle disappointing only 74 from almost 700 HP!!!!!!!The boat handled rough water pretty well for what it was though. Never had a problem with the bravo, but I was very nice to it out of the hole, torque and weight of the boat made me nervous!!

It is a big , heavy 27 with a deeper than normal V so that will
take its toll on top end for sure, nice thing is it will run that speed in
conditions that would leave a lot of other sportboats tucking tail and heading home.
