If it could be had for 30k i think it's a decent deal for the right ambitious person. Its a hell'ofa boat . . . . trust me. Wonder how far and for how long it was under?

03-01-2010 03:38 PMHas anyone ever had a clean, straightforward and satisfactory dealing with National Liquidators?

Yes - my dad did. He did go see the boat first in person and talked to the original owner before even placing a bid. Actually the original owner ended up giving him the canvas and electronics manuals that went with the boat that National Liquidators didn't have.
I saw a boat once!

two boats from them for customers this winter with no probs. They are asset brokers and dont really make many claims about the stuff they have. You need to do the homework and know what your looking at before going in.
This 38 doesnt really look like it was majorly wet. Heck its possible to put one on the bottom and bring it back to 100% if handled properly and quickly. I put my ScarabIII down and was back to using it the following weekendThrottles- Cleveland Construction/Traffic Light Racing 377 Talon cat

salt or fresh water would be my first question.
if it was under salt water and then has been sitting out since
I would pass on it.

03-01-2010 10:36 PM2 NL stories for you:
03 38 Powerplay- 30 hour salt water full submersion, no engines/drives sold for 30K, min. bid was 62K. Boat was a total loss. Guy in midwest slapped a pair of used 500's in it and got it running and was looking for 79K a few months later. Note the pics in the boattrader ad showed the boat underway yet the gauges registered nothing.....NL never indicated the boat was underwater or had any issues except the power/drives were missing.
04 Rinker 23 ft bowrider- my buddy bought it with no survey. Boat was 12k including taxes/fees. Takes it to a Mercury dealer and has impelller/all fluids/belts changed. Boat has a gauge indicated 21 hours on the 350/Bravo 3 (hull is faded, looks like 221 hours). In 15 months he has burned gas and a pulley only (bearing in pulley failed). Boat runs 46 mph top end and isn't a bad ICW cruiser.
If you look at what you are buying, do a little research you can score a deal. The Powerplay was a pig and wasn't worth 30K (much like this Donzi) but if you find a repo with nothing seriously wrong with it you can get a deal. If the boat is a name brand like Cigarette you will pay all the money though.....

My dad and I picked up a Formula from there. besides them charging for basically everything (i.e. nickel and dime us a bit) it was a good transaction.
The prices on the web site are absolute bull crap. Bid low. very low. and see what happens.
For example, there is a '97 48' Ocean super sport on there.. minimum bid is 219k. I think it is under contract for something like 160k.
It is a regular supply and demand type deal. if they get a million phone calls on a boat the price will go up. if it sits there for a while the price goes down.
If it looks ok in person I'd offer 10k on the Donzi and see what they say.

03-02-2010 01:56 PMThe 38 in question suffered a complete saltwater submersion. As I understand it, for an extended period of time. Both engines are locked up. Consider this particular boat to be a functional hull and deck only, needing complete re-rigging. What's the boat worth under those circumstances ? I guess that depends on how badly you want it.
