Hey guys, thought I posted this once already..but apparently not? Looking at a real nice '01 Outlaw with 496's (apparently installed at the factory although they weren't available). Anyway, what do I need to look out for? What is the life expentency of these motors? I have heard they are cast internals...is that true? Any help is appreciated. Will be running the boat on the rivers in Pittsburgh. Thanks.

I do not no much about the 496's, I prefer the old school BBC. What I have heard was all standard 496 engines have cast internals. Newer 496 HO's are cast, I have heard the early 496 HO's had a forged crank. This is just what I have heard and I am not sure how you can tell. I would start by getting the casting numbers off the block. Check mortec.com and see if that tells you anything. Someone that is more familiar with 496's may have a definate answer for you.
