02-02-2010 08:18 PMI have had a couple M3's and never really drove a 328 until my sister in law got one. I was impressed by its simplicity and it was a lot faster than I thought it would be. The only thing I would have to get used to is the small cupholders and the fact the window switches seemed real low on the drivers door. (low and far forward).
I wouldn't hesistate to get one!

Being in the car biz, if I were looking at anything european I would be leasing due to crazy maintenance costs...
That way, she's got a lower payment, a newer car and never has to worry about paying through the nose to maintain the car. Or losing her ass at trade in time. My $.02.Unstoppable f'n terror.

02-02-2010 08:57 PMon big cars like 650's, 750's yes you are right but for 3 series they are pretty reasonable and scheduled maintenance is free until 4 yrs-50K miles including brakes. No reason a 3 series can't go 100K with fluid changes and tires only. Now a twin turbo 335 could get expensive out of warranty.

Absolutely.
These cars go 200K without breaking a sweat with normal maintenance.
Change the oil every 5k, and go in for your free oil change at 15k. It's extremely important that the car gets at least one oil change in between BMWs scheduled oil change intervals.
At 100K miles with 15k intervals, the goo/buildup in the motor has done it's damage. The VANOS system (adjustable cam timing) is all reliant on tight tolerances, and oil PSI.
Oil change every 5k, (or at least 7500) is cheap insurance.
I've owned probably 15-20 of these cars. Still have my '88 325ix with 190k on it. And my '02 M5 with 50k.
I wouldn't drive anything else

I regularly service E30s with over 400k on them! They are like a Toyota pickup, they'll rot out before they ever die.
I like them all, but I'm definately a huge fan of the E39 body style.
