I can tell from my experience that Benny is tough, smart, and definitely a larger-than-life figure. Even in the time warp of prison, he is very, very sharp and has incredible stories.
His focus,as it should be, is to get out. While he was no angel, he was definitely handed a a sentence that was excessive(my opinion) and he has taken one for the team,so to speak. MM said it well that he is a standup guy.
IMHO..I would take Benny any day as a back up...
Apache to Ben was his toy..I mean building boats and the boat business.
In his grand scheme of life, offshore was his passion and his recreation...not a way to make a living.
Apache was not a profit driven enterprise for him and most likely,he lost money..but, he loved the sport.
Benny made an indelible impression on me as did Billy Elswick..two enigmatic characters
Just my opinion...

12-17-2009 09:40 AMOffshore Racing wasn´t designed to be a spectator sport, it's for people or companies with's lots of money to push the envelope of endurance technology and hopefully put a trophy on a mantle. It's man vs the elements, not like boats with like engines running in circles.
