10-14-2009 09:14 AMIt was a sad day, just glad fred ippolitto and his crew were ok.... I was a half mile behind them when it happened and by the time I passed by all you could see was the bow sticking straight up.
Word is they were running fast and loose. There were literally 5-6' rollers in the hudson that poker run with about 150 boats at the start. I still had my Panther and we could only run 50 mph in that slop. It was probably the most amount of boats ever at the NYC poker run. They went skyward approaching 100 mph, tripped, stuffed and barrel rolled at high speed.... All we could see was water....

10-14-2009 09:28 AMChief,
My list of accident witnesses include;
1999 - a 35ft. Sonic - Trip/Stuff in the East River at 70 mph. Two fractured vertibrea on the driver, a concusion and broken tailbone on the other two occupants. We had to resue the guy with the concusion out of the water and the guy with the back was taken immediately to the hospital.
2004 - a 36' Apache - you know the deal... I wasn't involved in any of the rescue opps but Otis was.
2009 - a 41' Velocity Trip/Stuff in the ocean in rough water at 75 mph.. Driver was ejected from the boat, I rescued him from the water, he suffered two broken ribs. The boat had delamination and a broken transom and a blown engine. We were able to get the boat/owner home and to the hospital. The boat will be fixed.
