By U Boy asked me to start a thread about my rebuild.
I found this thing wrecked near my house. I needed it like I needed a hole in the head so I low balled the guy. He took the offer! It sat for 9 months while I finished some other projects and I finally got around to working on it a month and a half ago.
Its a 76 CJ5 with all fiberglass tub, fenders and hood. The guy hit a telephone pole with the right front wheel. It destryoyed the frame, right fender, and cracked the front axle housing. Other than that I have redone and used all the parts that came on the thing. I bought a used frame, sand blasted it, reenforced it in critical areas then painted it with POR15. The project has been mainly labor and very little expense. I am not building it as a show jeep but rather a trail jeep that I wouldn't mind to take to the grocery.

as it sits now. I need to put the steering column back in, bolt down the roll bar, put new windshield frame on , and a bunch of miscellaneous stuff.
I wet sanded and buffed the tub since the pics as well. It came out pretty nice!

Cool project! A long while back I took a old '77 CJ-7 that had a severe case of body cancer. Took me a whole hour to remove the tub from the frame. Bought a new style wrangler tub, fenders, etc. While the body was off decided to install a SBC which was a wise choice. Advanced adapters in CA made it very simple & fit like a glove. Several years later I was hooking up the jet boat but something was terrible wrong....the back half of the frame was rotted. We spliced in a new section and as good as new.
Then I decided to install a plow and made great coin in the winter. What a workhorse! Several years later the frame started to rot again. Was sad to see it go.

11-22-2008 07:00 PMI had a bright red CJ5, small block V8 with 3 speed stick. It was a blast until about 60 mph. Dick Cepek monster mudders did the trick for mud season. I paid something over 5 grand for the new beast.

I have a problem with buying smashed Jeeps too. Bought this one a while back wrecked, but with a clear title. I'll dig up some pics of it when I got it. Just sold it and already have my eyes on another.

I am just getting back to my project 1977 CJ 7. I'll be buying a lift in the next week or so and putting it on a perfect frame I got from California. Then I'll start to transfer all my running gear from my CJ.
