KEY WEST
'Square grouper' washes up
Key West police reportedly found two marijuana bales that washed ashore Saturday at the beach at Naval Air Station Key West Truman Annex.

One package weighed about 34 pounds and the other about 12 pounds worth a total of $46,000, according to incident reports. Navy police called Key West officers after finding the packages about 8:30 a.m.

The last reported incidents of drug bales washing ashore occurred in July when about 20 cocaine bales worth about $600,000 washed ashore at nearby Fort Zachary Taylor State Park.

Homeland Security Investigations is the lead agency in all such cases.
