A year and a half ago I was told about this beautiful Cigarette 42X that was for sale. It was listed for in the upper 4's, but a friend of the owner told my buddy, that it could be bought for around $325K ish. The wife and I went on an 8 hour road trip with our engine builder and his wife, to check out this boat. It was everything that I was told it was, and more.
We both fell in love with how it was painted. The detail in the paint was second to none. Under the hatch it had a giant Cigarette logo painted on it with all the colors that ran through the boat flowing under the hatch when you opened it up. The colors that flowed through it had such detail in them on how they were layed out, that I thought if I ever put a scratch in it, I'd never be able to touch it up. It had a Cigarette swim platform on it that had a bracket on the strb side of it that allowed you to hook on the ladder to climb in and out of the water, and keep you clear of the props cause it was on the side of the platform. The top of the hatch was custom padded with the Cig logo in the middle, and it still retained the air scoops in the sides.
The engines are a pair of Merc 900's, that Kevin had bumped up to 1050 hp. Dry sumped #6's that needed a bigger pair of wheels now that the power was pumped up. The boat still ran 110-111 that way it is. NOW, there was'nt one thing about this boat that could complain about. I checked it with a fine tooth comb, and there was'nt even a nick in the paint anywhere. It was as perfect as anyone could ask for. It does'nt have the front V-berth, it has the half cabin, but we never slept overnight in our Fountain, and IT has the V-berth, so, oh well. The ONLY thing that I did'nt really like, was that they kept the dry sump oil tanks for the engines a plain silver instead of painting them with the colors of the boat like most other Cigarettes are.
OK, so this is the late summer 07. Now, I naturally ask what's the best price on the boat??? keeping in mind that a friend of mine told me that it could be bought for around $325-330K ish. Well my bubble was bursted when we were told that it'd take $430K to bring it home. Well, that ended that.
Over the next year I looked at many boats, and compared them all to that 42X, and nothing even compared to it. Kinda like knowing what ya want, but ya can't find it for what ya have to spend on it.
Well, after a year and a half, it's fineally in our driveway. The wife loves it, my niece thinks it the most beautiful boat she's seen and wants to come out boating. I have always said that after I get all that speed out of my system with this Fountain, that the next boat will be a slower one. But, do I really wat to slow down ??? To me, that's a sign of getting old, kinda like you can't handle the speed and all the excitement that comes with it. I don;t know, but anyway, took some pics yesterday, so check it out, and what do ya think.
