Actor Don Johnson, driving the Team USA powerboat, took first place in the Offshore Professional Tour's Bud Dry Marathon Offshore Challenge.

02-04-2011 11:14 AMOne of the very first races we worked and assisted in race control on the top floor of the Faro Blanco lighthouse. The same location my picture with "Mr. Richards" (DJ's code name) was taken that is in the 2010 30 yr. program. My introduction to life in the Keys and I thought that was hot stuff.
The Faro Blanco hotel and restaurant is leveled except for the lighthouse which has been hollowed out by termites and some days I feel the same way.

02-04-2011 12:08 PMI was at that race as a 17-year-old and most all the Grand Haven races growing up. It was attending those races as a kid that made me want to bring a race here to Michigan City when I grew up. Good times.

10-27-2013 09:18 PMSorry to say but a bunch of us had moved on out of offshore racing into IMSA Endurance sport car racing. Preston Henn had gone from his many victories in the Bacardi race to running a Porsche 962 and winning the Daytona 24 hour race with some co drivers by the name of AJ Foyt and Bob Wollek. Sandy Satullo and his son were racing with me and my son in some of the lower classes doing the 6 hour races and Sebring races each year. Preston decided to sell the Porsche when he needed a new starter at Sebring one year and when he went over to the factory parts truck, they sold him one for $5,000. I think he kind of felt they were taking advantage of the racers. Bill Elswick and Joel Halpern moved into NASCAR by then too. Believe it or not if you bought a car or team from a well known builder, you could just show up and qualify and they would let you race. Different times back then.
