West Michigan Offshore’s 2021 Rock the Coast event began on Friday with boat rides for the Big Brother’s Big Sister’s of the Lakeshore rides, then the gathering of the boats at the Grand Haven Municipal Marina, followed by the Keith Holmes Memorial Run. The day went smoothly with an impressive turnout to honor one of West Michigan’s incredible performance boaters who was tragically lost.

Then, on Saturday, the Poker Run commenced from Grand Haven, south to Holland for lunch, then south again to Saugatuck, back north to Port Sheldon for a raft up, then back north to the Grand Haven finish. Helicopter coverage was coordinated for both days, so there were both a helicopter and boats in the air many times during this run.
At the start in Grand Haven the group left the docks and river to proceed out the channel to Lake Michigan together.
Then it was time for the run to Holland’s Boat Werks restaurant for the lunch stop. Thanks to Ron, one of the best possible boats for photo shots from a moving boat was made available. A 48 Fountain with 4 - 450 Merc outboards. I cannot say enough how much that was appreciated. What a great way to get some awesome shots, a perfect platform!
A couple shots with a bit of air! (Many more to follow, keep checking back)
Poker runner’s entering Holland’s Lake Macatawa channel from Lake Michigan. Big Red, the historic lighthouse, is always a popular photo opportunity and a welcome sight when the lake is really rough, (not today), and you are a bit beat-up.
At Boat Werks in Holland we counted 64 boats rafted up at the restaurant for the lunch stop. In addition, several went to other places, and some just ate on their boats out on the water. It was definitely a busy place. As you can see, the Sheriff was also paying close attention…..
Some of the boats in the raft-up on Pigeon Lake at Port Sheldon.
Altogether there were 102 boats signed up for the weekend’s events, and over $11,000 was raised for Big Brothers and Big Sisters of the Lakeshore. Another impressive example of how big the hearts of this group of performance boaters are. Their willingness to assist those less fortunate constantly exceeds all expectations, the original goal was to raise $5000.
A couple photos of the big brothers and big sisters rides that took place on Friday afternoon. As WMO’s President, Roger Zuidema, stated, “Nothing but smiles on boats as big’s and little’s enjoyed a boat ride of their life”.
Of course card-stops always seem to be fun. Here are some card-stop pictures from Saugatuck and Port Sheldon.
A very successful weekend from a group of people passionate about performance boating, being with others just as passionate, and all of them doing what they can to assist others not as fortunate on their trip through life’s day to day trials. It certainly makes an impressive statement about what really matters! Next WMO event, the GOLD COAST SUMMER BLAST 2021, HTTPS://WWW.WESTMICHIGANOFFSHORE.COM/AUGUST-FUN-RUN-2
There are a lot of pictures from the run following, and more will be added as they are reviewed over the next several days. The photo boat, numerous captains, and the water were all contributors to getting some pretty decent shots. Hope you enjoy!
