I rode in Fever Mike's 38 Fountain CC and was really impressed. The quietness at idling and overall performance was great! We're putting 3 / 350'S on our new 41 CC.

I have a Concept 27' with a 225 Opti
and
1990 Twister 24' with a 200 Mercury

The 225 opti is an awesome motor and uses very little fuel...so little I thought my gas gauge was broken when I bought it.

My 200 is a 1990 and runs awesome.

I'm very happy with my Verados (and service), but you probably already knew that.

I was told by a guy I met last week, that the Opti 300xs runs as well and uses much less fuel that the 350 Verado. Mercury sponsors his 34ft Yellowtail in tounaments. He has had 3 300xs motors and now has 3 or the 350 Verados. He likes the Opti's alot better.

I have the old 225 Opti's (2001) that were part of the class action. They have been great until 2 months ago. One just keeps dieing and Merc is on their way here again this week to try and fix it. It's been repaired 7 times for the same failure, they can't fix it or understand why? No fault codes except for "low reservior" which comes in a spurt and fills the brain with 1,500 of the same faults in 2 minutes. They changed oil tanks, senders, and brains - still the same thing!!! WTF?

I love them aside from this strange problem. I run or ran up to 120 miles out and have no fear with them very dependable, no issues great fuel economy, etc, etc - until now (LOL)

I have not had any Opti's before...only the 250efi 2 strokes. What I do like about the Verado's is how quiet and smooth they are. I can turn the steering wheel with 1 finger on my triple Verado boat. The Verado's are more than just an engine they are a package.

One negative is the Verado weighs at least 100lbs more than the Optimax. The 300 weighs 505lbs and the 350Verado weighs 635.

Also the 250 OPTI runs on 87 octane

Negitive for some boats but not all boats.

Negitive for some boats but not all boats.That's true, the bigger the boat the less the weight matters. This 50' cat with a front V is running 60 w/trip 350s and it's got room for a fourth;

The heavier the boat the haappier it will be with Verados. They spin the rpms of a two stroke either. Depends on the boat.

Extra weight and beam width is an issue.

I have had Mercury's, Yahama and Johnson's. I just got a new Everglades with a 250 Verado and I must say; HANDS DOWN the BEST OUTBOARD I have ever been around!!! I have many friends that fish the SKA Circuit and many have recently changed to Verado's also and they too say that they will never own anything but a Verado from now on.

And Fever is right, Verado's are a Package not just a motor. The Steering and the throttles and soooooo smooth...

Hey Mark,
Basic question is all. There are a lot of nice performance boats out there that have Verados or Opti's on them. Just wanted to see what the rest of the community thought. We already service quite a few of them. As far as the parts and service, we already stock everything to maintaine a Verado and Optimax and everyone at JAWS is already Verado Certified as well as Mercury Certified to do any repairs. We also work on a few of those 300XS Opti's as well!:sifone:

Cool- I thought you were already sales/service for them but wasn't sure.

Good to know- I'm an hour south of your shop!

I've had both.
They may be heavier and use a little more fuel but the smoothness and lack of noise puts the Verados on the top of my list.
I hated having to add that 2 stroke oil all of the time. 250XS's used something like a gallon to every 25 or 30 of gas.
