A little background... Central Texas is in a severe drought. Lake Travis is at record lows. There is currently only one open public boat ramp (Mansfield Dam) and is it only allowing jet skis to launch.

Lake Austin is downstream from Lake Travis, but it is a "constant level" lake. Many "wakeboard" boats that would normally be on Lake Travis are now going to the much smaller Lake Austin. This causes Lake Austin to be overcrowded.

Over the weekend that was a boating accident on Lake Austin that involved two wakeboard boats and a drunk driver, but the "witness" (near the end of the video) says that Cigarette boats are the cause.

Idiot!

I agree with you. About to watch the video. But this is the result of "Cigarette" becoming synonymous with fast boat. like White-out for corrective fluid.

The witness seems to bring Cigarettes into the problem, as if one was nearby. But she's making her blanket statement about the dangers of the lake because Cigarettes are racing around.

I personally think all slow-moving geriatrics should be banned from recreational areas (including the entire state of Florida) and shipped to Alaska. Nothing moves fast there.

wake boats IMHO cause a lot of problems, they often are driven in erratic patterns and purposely create a huge wake. Large wakes on any lake, let alone a narrow lake is bad for the shoreline, swimmers, fisherman, pontoon boats, etc. Frankly I am surprised that the DNR has not tried to ban them. They make such a big deal around here if you try to do one darn thing like put up a sea wall or build a small gazebo by the lake, but they do nothing about boats filled with water sacs designed to send rollers that at times crash over your seawall or up on your beach an over your lawn. Wakeboats seem to be a growing segment in the boating industry, 3 or 4 out of 5 new boats that show up on our lake are wakeboard boats:(

Typical! Blame the Cigarette boats. It's always their fault. Not the idiot with 2 -- 5 year old kids riding the water roach in and out of our wakes or the knuckle heading pulling the tuber in the high traffic boat channel or the wake boat that runs 50 yards off the docks pulling a wakeboarder and tears up 5 or 6 of our boats with a 4 foot wake while we are trying to tie them up. All of our boats got a major case of dock rash from this azzhead. Unfortunetly no one got his Texas Reg #. It's always our fault.

wake boats have an intended purpose

to CREATE wakes, good or bad...

if they weren't meant for that purpose why do they have fillable bladders?

Don't you find that odd, that you can sell a boat that has a big bag in the back specificaly designed to be filled with water to make a big wake, still cant' figure why a bunch of people are not on their case, few people ever complain about them.
