Heading up to the traverse city area this weekend and I've heard about the chain of lakes up there. Starting in the west bay of Traverse and on up. Just wanted to get any info, tips or advice for the trip, any thoughts to help me out would be great, thanks.

No way to hook into the inland chain from the West bay. You can get into Elk, Skegmog and Torch starting from past the dam in Elk Rapids.

What chain of lakes? the chain you maybe referringto is Starting just east of the mackinac bridge out of klake huron down into mullet lake then into Burt lake.

the other chain you may be thiniking of would be elk lake, torch lake, crooked lake and lake bellaire but you cant get to them from lake Mi. there is a dam between elk lake and lake MI. another cool trip would be to go up to lake charlevoix from lake mi. its a long lake with 2 arms one going to east jordan the other going to Boyne city.

So basically just start at elk and and start moving, I seem to memember reading something about a stump field in skegmog but I couldn't find the info. Is it a neat trip or should I just put in at Torch and skip the rest. Honestly I'm open to any recommendation in that area, whether it be the chain or not.

I would love to go out on the big lake but I only have a 25' boat. I've only had it for about two months but already want bigger!!

Either choice would be excellent. Pick one and do the whole weekend.

Lake Charlevoix is great, as are all the towns on it - plus Round Lake, city of Charlevoix and access to Lake Michigan.

The chain is awesome as well - you can go through Elk Lake, Skegemog, Torch, Clam Lake and through the Grass River into Lake Bellaire. Torch Lake is the most beautiful I've ever seen and the 4th of July party on the sandbar on the south end is supposed to be big.

You can't go wrong anywhere in this area - it's all prime. [I envy George!] :sifone:

I think the ujoint in the upper part of the drive let go and kaboom loud noise and we were stuck on torch lake, at least we had a cooler full of beer to work on as we waited to get towed. I will def be back up there this summer though that place was great.
